No.Panasonic recorders only record to DVD-R and DVDRAM.The more flexible -RW format is mainly used on Pioneer recorders, however,Sony,Toshiba(and possibly another make aswell) also support -RW.But Pioneer`s latest models offer an improved version of -RW with extra features the other makes don`t yet include.

What is "more flexible" about -RW ?
As far as I can tell, the only reason one would use -RW is to repeatedly lend out discs to other people, otherwise RAM is perfectly sufficient for personal use.
I stand to be educated though.

JVC DRM10 DVD Recorder can record on DVD-RW as well as DVD-RAM & DVD-R discs. The Panny E55 is much cheaper and with -R discs costing as little as 35p each, it`s better to use these discs for recordings you want to give to others.

GCXBoy
Can you clarify what type of cheap -R`s I should go for ?
I have only used Panasonic`s own up until now,but I looked into www.ukdvdr.co.uk today and it looks like I could save some serious money.
I`m confused about this 1X,2X,4X thing though.
What is that all about ???? :/

most (if not all) 4x discs will now work with the panasonic recorder`s, i personally use either datawrite yellows or ritek tango`s, at £9 & £11 for 25 :)

(what is the significance of the 1x,2x,4x stuff anyway...) :/

this only really refer`s to pc drives which can write at multiple speeds, set top boxes (as a rule) only record at 1x

What is more flexible about -RW?
Well, for a start it offers the editing sophistication of RAM,while recording in VR mode, and Pioneer machines also offer Timeslip in VR mode aswell. But -RW also gives you the choice to record in Video mode offering playback compatibility.RAM is a great format and if you don`t need playback in other players then fine-but -RW gives you the option should you need it,whether it be in your kids player,or a friend`s or ,as in a lot of cases, the main player of the house-I know a lot of people only use their recorders to record, and view on another player.
So -RW has that advantage over RAM-if you need it.
