Page 1 of Advice for a new SC2000 owner

Hello all
As a new owner of an SC2000 I have read NiVZ`s excellent FAQ sheet and would like to ask the cognicenti please. I have V2.07 firmware, from what I have read here in the forum and again on the FAQ it may be best to consider first downgrading to 1.80 a couple of times before coming up to a recent version (2.11 perhaps rather than 2.23). Could anyone advise mem please and also tell me where I can get "safe" copies of earlier firmware revisions.

I thought the same. I downgraded to 2.04s and back up a few times with no problem, but when I downgraded to 1.80 it got stuck. Now I can`t load any other version. I`m sure I`ve done nothing wrong.
Maybe there`s only one combination that caused a problem. like 2.14 down to 1.80 back up to 2.23 or something strange, but I`d try and get more info before trying it.

Check out the thread about updating firmware one or two below this one.
Many will tell you they`ve done it fine, and I`m sure they are right, but it`s caused a problem for me.

From what I can gather it not the firmware, but rarther the chip the firmware is stored on. Earlier players used 2 or 3 diffrent brand of flashroms to hold the firmware, so the firmware only needed to know how to update 2 or 3 types of flash rom. On newer players there are 7 or 8 types of flashrom and the newer firmware knows how to reprogram them all, so if you down grade to a firmware that can not reprogram your flash rom your stuck with that firmware unless you can reprogram it externaly.

Same problem here.

I had version 2.07 and downgraded to v1.80. No problem in doing this,but could not upgrade to any version after this.

Thanks for that. Does anyone know what version Scan are shipping at the moment at all as an example I have had mine less than a week (shipped last Saturday) is this an "old" unit as regards firmware?

I take it you want to know the brand of the chip the firmware is stored on.
opening your player is the only way to find out. but this will make any gt invalid. so i dont recomend doing it.
Why do you want to downgrade any way?

You CAN find out without opening up - take a look at the Software Status Window (SSW) and note the number after `ADV7172`, compare this with the list on hdubois site (which I can`t find the bookmark for at the moment) All I can remember is that 00000003 is AMIC.

I had same problem with my Grundig GDV-130, I downgraded and player was dead. Problem was that old FW was not compatible with ADV1772 chip. I used external programer to put new FW back (2.23 for Scan) and player is working again :-)) You need to open player and put Amic29040 out of socket.

Conclusion: !!! NEVER DOWNGRADE YOUR PLAYER UNDER SHIPED FW VERSION !!!

I think this number is the TV Encoder chip model revision and not the firmware chip maker.

Yes, I had not problem with Flash, but with output encoder chip. Player was totaly dead. FW I used to flash was compatible only with CSxxxx chip and not ADVxxxx.
