DVD/VCR Combi - is there one out there?

Tarzan (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 28th January 2004, 15:38

Dear All
I`ve been looking to buy a DVD/VCR Combi for some time now, and need some help.

I need one that is Multi-region (or can be hacked via remote) and plays VCDs, CDR/CDRWs, etc. - MP3/Macrovision not essential. Also, it should be less than £150.

I`ve seen a couple in Comet (Proline and Aiwa), but they`re all R2, and I have not been able to find any instructions on making them multiregion on this site or any other.

Thanks

Tarzan.

There are a few in the new Argos catalogue, ranging from £120 - £179.

I don`t know if any of these are able to play the things you mention, but they could be worth looking into as there are several different brands there.

Hope this helps,

Dazza.

Hi Tarzan, been looking for one myself, there`s 2 models at TJ HUGHES, in Sc***horpe, Daewoo SD - 8500p £119.99p. Phillips DVD 740VR £149.99 these I think can be hacked, the Daewoo I`m told will play anything, plus it has 6 head VCR that`s the one I`m going for. Safeways has a Brozback for £ 99.95 DVDVCR, but does`nt play everything. I think this machine might not be the one for you. Also at Safeways scunny there`s a Naiko N2810 TVDVD £249.00 28inch WINDSCREEN with built in DVD,on sale till 2nd feb , probably at most safeways not multi region but there is a hack on this site. :) GAZNICO

Our local Safeway (Plymouth) has just got one in for £99. Some weird brand begiinning with `Brok`, which is just tempting fate.
Aldis have also had one recently, can`t remember if it`s Bush or their usual Medion brand though. £110.
No idea if they`re good and hackable, sorry.

Doesn`t having a SwearChecker that censors innocuous words like Sc***horpe just draw attention to `swearing` that forum-members didn`t even intend to post?

Stop that sn*****ing, you boys at the back!

Tarzan - I`ve been looking at getting a combi too and have narrowed it down to a Samsung as I know these are hackable, or a Toshiba - plenty of these on ebay (although make sure you go for one that specifies it`s multi-region).

Thanks for all that replied - I was away, so I couldn`t respond earlier.
I now have some good leads, and will follow them up. Will keep you all posted on my progress. I now need to look for hacks for these DVD/VCR combis - unfortunately, not too many around.

Cheers

Tarzan
