PANASONIC CAN`T HEAR SPEECH HELL

I`ve connected Panasonic DVD player to Panasonic TV. Watching "Bowling for Columbine" DVD this evening, whenever music was playing in the soundtrack the speech (i.e. Michael Moore`s narration) was almost completely obscured. In other words, I could hear too much music and only faint speech. The two are connected by a single scart. Am I doing something wrong here? Any suggestions gratefully accepted. Well, almost any..

Have you made sure that the sound in the DVD player is set to `downmix to stereo` or something similar. If it`s not that I can`t help I`m afraid.

This sounds cheeky,,but it`s not meant to be,,,but have you had your Ears Checked out!!,,,,,apparently speech is a Low Freq.,,and if to much Wax builds up in our Ears,,,your Head Falls Off !!!!,,,with your ears still attached,,thus reducing your capability to hear Low Freq. Sounds!,,,

Chances are your audio out settings are incorrect on the player and are set for an amplifier,so you are missing all the centre channel audio where speech usually comes from.

To be honest, I haven`t set any of the audio settings. I just connected it up with a scart lead to the TV. Presuming this is something I do with the DVD player and not the TV, I`ll have a go at it. I`m also wondering if it might be the disc itself as it doesn`t seem to occur on other discs. Many thanks for replies. Any more theories welcome..

Yeah, picking out speech from background noise is I`m afraid one of the things that advancing years bring on, :) Most men and to a lesser extent women I think suffer some degree of hearing loss as they get older. Fact of life I`m afraid. Still, if you don`t fall into this category, might be worth getting an ear check. Your problem still could be a technical thing though.

As it only happens on the one disc it is obviously not the player incorrectly set.Although it does not make any difference normally, see if its possible to select Dolby Surround on the audio menu rather than 5.1 Dolby Digital which may help. Most discs default to DD nowadays
