Hardware Forum
Although stocks are scarce, Tesco are now selling Wharfdale 750/750S at an incredible £99! I bought one yesterday at Leamington Spa Metro store. Having tried it last night, I am certain that this is the hardware bargain of the year!
My local Tesco has about 20 of them piled on a palet all for £99.99,
they are the 750 and the 750s ,whats the difference between the models.
Also are they unreliable machines and what is the picture like?
RE: Amazing Wharfedale 750 Deal
As far as I know there is no operational or real cosmetic difference between 750 and 750s. 750s is the newer model and has a different multi region hack (but still straight forward.) As for performance, for under 100 quid you will not beat it. The picture and sound quality is better than most players under £250. Please note only one scart socket - but that didn`t bother me.
RE: Amazing Wharfedale 750 Deal
My understanding is that the 750s plays MP3 disks whilst the 750 doesn`t.
This post would be better suited in the Bargain Bucket forum to allow readers there to make use of the information !

RE: Amazing Wharfedale 750 Deal
The 750s is the one to go for as it has a region lock if required and it plays most discs without problems.
RE: Amazing Wharfedale 750 Deal
Your all forgetting one impotant factor, that the 750s is s***e, why else do ya think it`s 100 quid? Anyone gonna argue that it IS a good player?
RE: Amazing Wharfedale 750 Deal
Well Sammy, so what DVD player do you recommend for £99 then ?
Let me guess, none.....
Imagine, a person can only afford to spend £99, they buy the Wharfedale 750 or 750s - to me that is a very good DVD player for them....
Maybe you are a purist or a bit of an idiot, I don`t know which, but these things are all relative - for the money it is the best machine on the market, but compare it to a machine for £1,000 then it probably is "s***e" as you so crudely put it.
In fact, I paid £170 for one last year, and for my family it plays the Tweenies and Toy Story 2 just fine for my 18 month baby daughter.
Get a grip...

It does seem like good value, but I have spoken to all of the tesco stores in Nottingham and they do not have any in stock.
I telephoned the strore in Baldock (a tesco extra) and they said that they had the dvd players in stock but they were £179.99. Could anyone tell me of a store near Nottingham (or one near the M1 between Nottingham and London) that sells the Wharfdale 750s for £99 please.
RE: Amazing Wharfdale 750 Deal
I bought the 750 on the 28th December 2000 for £179.99 and now I find they have gone down to £99.99.
I would of preffered the 750s as it plays mp3s but I am happy with the model I`ve got.
The picture is excellent and the sound quality too.
In my experience the playback of VCD copies are really good too.
Not many DVD players within this price range can play CDRs so it was value for money at £179.99.
Now that you can get one for £99.99 that has to be a real bargain and if I can get hold of one for that price I`m going to,for the bedroom or for the kids` rooms.
It will even play other region dvds ,through a handset hack which I haven`t
tried yet as I only have region 2 dvds.
I`m going to phone around all my local Tesco stores tomorrow and see if I can find the £99.99 deals.
