What kind of home cinema system?

TeeHee (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 30th December 2003, 15:29

Is it better to buy a dvd with a home cinema system attached or get a cinema system to suit your TV?
My parents want a new dvd player and have decided they want a home cinema system at the same time and have asked my advice. Too many systems out there !!
My feeling is to get a seperate dvd player and speaker system, am I wrong?
They already have a decent widescreen tv.
Thanks

It depends greatly upon budget and what level your parents expect! A basic outline is that the top end of performance will be gained from seperate setups, but some of the intergrated systems may provide better performance per buck at the lower end of the scale...

Dvd players with inbuilt sound systems are always produced on a budget. You will always get a better result with buying a separate player, amp then speakers. If budget is not a problem this is the way to go-but they may prefer something simple.A seperates system can be fiddly to set up.Can they be bothered with all that-they might like the easy option of an all in one.If you do get an AIO system check whether multiregion is also wanted,as most quality brand stuff is not available as MR in the high street.

I Bought an LG DA-3620 from Richer Sounds, Multi region out of the box, DTS, Dolby Pro logic and 3 other sound settings from external sources. Cute little speakers that pack a punch, without being too obtrusive. FM RDS tuner built in! All this for £119.95!
I know it may not be the best brand in the world, but I am MORE than happy with it! the only addition I have made is 2 Satellite stands for the surrounds.(£30)

Highly Recommended as a budget set-up-EVERYTHING you need!

Except consistent playback of recordable dvd`s.I have tried quite a few LG players and only one has ever worked with either + or -.I would be interested to know if your model is any different
