Cheap DVD Player for a Pressie

flyingmonkey (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 19th November 2003, 17:28

Hi

Want to get my brother a sub 50 quid DVD player for Crimbo. We don`t spend loads on each other and all he really needs to be able to watch are backed up DVDs and multi-region disks. It`ll be connected via SCART to his newish widesreen telly and sound quality isn`t really an issue. I`ve got access to cash and carrys and would rather buy from a shop than get it online.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Nick

I bought a couple of these for presents last weekend, and they have the 3 year asda gaurantee.
I`m thinking of keeping one of them now -its better than the machine I`ve had for the last 2 years which cost much more.

Just bought a Maxim MX11-20 at Safeway £44.95 - multi region out of the box - so far has played regions 1,2,&3 + RCE region 1 XXX, also played DVD+RW & finalised DVD+R, still to try out on DVD-R/RW`s but should be no problem

Lowpost you are right the MX11-20 will handle dvd-r ok but I have not tried it with dvd-rw yet , the only " fault " with this player is some but not all vcd discs suffer from lip synch problems although if vcd is important then try a lower cd record speed as some have suggested this might be the cure for this.

Amazon have the Yamada 2500 for £29.99 post free (cos its over £25!)

It is multi region with a simple remote hack via Amazon advert.

It plays mp3s and also jpegs for slideshowing your digital camera pics.

Comes with batteries and RCA leads but you will need to get a scart lead.

Very good manual.

We bought one for sis-in-law for Crimbo and it arrived in 2 days.

Very pleased with it.

I`m in the same boat (pressy for under £50) and wondered what the Bush (could be the `2035`) is like which is £45 in Homebase (on Friday!)
Also, should that be YamaHa? or is YamaDa an actual make?
