Page 1 of What 5.1 system?
Hardware Forum
I am about to buy a Yamada 6100, which has got 5.1 built in, so I want to get some speakers, they don`t have to be the best!
But I can`t find anything like.
Can I use PC speakers as the player already has 5.1 built in?
Any recommendations for a set of basic but good 5.1 surround speakers, that won`t cost a fortune as the room they are going into isn`t the best for sound!!!!
Please Help
Why can`t I buy the speakers that come with the dvd player as seperates? Yamada do a lesser model but with surround, yet I can`t find the speakers in the uk?

You`ll need more than just a set of speakers! You need something to amplify the signal - an AV amp or receiver.
As a minimum you`ll need one with DD5.1 handling capability to cope with your DVD`s 5.1 signal and have 6 speaker output to connect to your 2 front, 2 rear, one centre, and one subwoofer loud speakers.
Suggest Richer Sounds as good starting place.
Good luck
Pete
OK, go on!
Think of me as the dumb ass at the back of the class ;) I really am as technical as a screwdriver at a GP!!! So what you are saying is that instead of all the 70-100 pound 5.1 systems I have been looking at, I need to be looking at all the 200+ systems that have everything?!
Just say buy ?@*~#{}?:@P}{}P[at]L and I will? Well almost??
So much choice, so much choice!!! WHY
Argos stock a DVD player with DD 5.1 capability and a speaker package, for under £100.
All depends on your budget, and what you expect from the system.

That`s the problem, I have the DVD player, I just want the speakers!!! But it seems that unless you pay for a package you have to pay the earth for seperate speakers? >:(
All I want is a 5.1 speaker set with amp for not much money ;)
But what ever I put a search in for I don`t seem to find one, all I get are PC speakers :(
I was just wondering if anyone out there knew of a set I could look at?
I have found this which I am very interested in but I guess I will need a seperate amp to go with it?

any speakers here ?
and receivers here?
Richer sounds are very good for putting together starter packages
(btw I don`t work for them)
Argos have speaker packages for DVD players with built-in 5.1 decoders (as in your case) and for those that don`t.
The cheapest for those with built-in 5.1 decoder is
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=1001&productId=62800
and for those that don`t (the 5.1 decoder is built into the speakers)
http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=1001&productId=52539
I would personally go for the last one as it look better and has better sound...but I bet is costs twice as much as your DVD player.
Hope this helps

Kiff,
I can recommend both of Sultan`s Argos suggestions. I own the second one myself
and bought the first one for my dad. Both systems are excellent value for money.
RE: What 5.1 system?
Could I connect my Tosh SD220E DVD straight to the system that has an intergrated decoder or would I need an amp?
The Acoustic Solutions DS533 is a truly great bargain - I have this system and am very very pleased with it, my mate has one that cost 300 quid more and it`s hard to tell the difference. GO FOR IT!!!
