Page 1 of £200-WHAT DVD PLAYER

I have just decided to join the club,with just £200 at my disposal, guys please advice,whats the best value for money out there!!!!!!!

Well, even though the machine is plagued with a few problems at the moment I would say the Scan, as it is an impressive specification, fast, responsive, good quality build and you`d get change from £200.

However, if you look at the thread I posted today Scan SC2000 & AV6 Problems & Thoughts, you`ll see what problems myself and others are having. Myself and others are being reassured that Scan are working their little socks off to resolve these problems, and once they do, I think the machine would be one of the best in its price range on its market.

Okay, how many people going to disagree with me :-)

When I asked this question a few weeks ago, following up with looking at some reviews and trying out an LG3200e, I chose the LG3350e. But I don`t have it because like you I have only £200 which means that I ordered from Dabs for £189. It`s starting reappearing in the high street (Currys) in the last week at £250 but Dabs still have none. A couple of weeks ago they said 01 Feb, now they say early February. Dabs must send their sales force on special courses to learn how to use weasel words like that.

If you`re not bothered about digital/DTS decoder on board, MP3 capability, then I`d say take a look at the LG3200e around £169-£179 on the high street (£149 on Dabs but also none in stock, and nowhere on Tottenham Court Road I discovered on Tuesday).

try the pioneer dv-535.
It`s multi-region from the box, macro disable, and rce encoded.
All for £210 inc VAT and delivery.
I`ve ordered mine from www.leconcepts.com/dvd_home.htm.
Or you could go for the dv-530 which has identical features except it is silver and has no optical out, for the same price, and it is in stock as far as i know and is available for next day del.
It is the cheapest price i have seen them for and i`ve been looking!!!!!!!!Have a look you might like it. :-)

I would by a top brand player if i were you.
Speaking from experience go for a Toshiba,Poineer,Panasonic ETC.
I tried one of those "other " brand makes and sent them back and got a
Toshiba for £179.

Well just so i can make the forum a little more fair i will tell you a little about the Toshiba 100!!!!

Ok well I will admit that i too had the same problems when trying to get hold of a player.....there`s just soooo much choice, and, to be frank a lot of it is rubbish. However there are some very good players out there!! The 2 i personaly like are the Aiwa 370 and, as previously mentioned, the Toshiba 100. So where am i going with all this? Well the first thing is to compare them both........The Aiwa 370 is almost impossible to get hold of........the Toshiba is easier to get hold of.

Well that you may, although the Toshiba 100 isn`t able to be hacked like the Aiwa it has out performed the Aiwa in many ways. The problem, as people have stated before, is that the forum is just full of Aiwa and, if i may say so, Hitachi supports! Again it really does come down to personal experiences, for example Jimbo has had good luck with his Aiwa and in turn he has spread the word causing mass shortages of the player. It`s a bit annoying really as there are other players, such as the Toshiba, that are just as good if not better but don`t get a voice and so are left out!!!!!!! -Not that Jimbo would be nasty about another player........except maybe a (s)hitachi!!! :)

My advice is to look at all of the DVD`s working in store and to at least buy from a company who will let you return it if u find it rubbish!!

Anyway i dont really think this message makes much sense!!

If you need any advise on the Toshiba i can get some people to e-mail their personal reviews to you and/or you can just listen to me ramble on and on and on and on and on..........you get the picture! :)

I sent an e-mail to hed asking what features were on the pie&ear coz the site page didn`t have the tech specs.
I enquired if the 535 had macro off/ rce enabled......
they said it didn`t!!!................
I know it is multi-region coz it sez so!
However double check on the macro disable ok?
You might not be getting what you want

If what I`ve been reading is correct, you can bypass rce by loading a non-rce disc, eject, play rce disc.

If this is correct then there shouldn`t be a problem with RCE on all multiregion pioneers. Donno bout macrovision though.

Can someone confirm this?
