Does any one know where I can get 2.4 meters ( 8 foot wide) wide projection screen for my LCD projector?
cheapes way to solve your problem is to use a kingsize sheet or two . pin it out tight on the wall and hey presto a large screen for you. :D
If you play with Feathers you get your Bum Tickled.!
Blackout cloth is much better actually, as none of the light passes through. I made mine with this stuff, and it`s great. However, I assume you want one that rolls up rather than a permanent fixture?
Try Direkt2u - £270 for a 234 cms x 132 cms (92 ins x 52 ins) one - and to think mine cost about £30....
Some people have also used blackout blinds with success - these will obviously roll away. You`d probably need a custom made job for an 8` span though - but Ikea now do a 200cm wide one for £20.
RE: Projection Screen help
I agree wholeheartedly with Richard on this one. I recently purchased a Panny AE300 so this weekend, following the advice from Richard`s website, myself and the missus constructed a 115" (8 foot) screen using blackout cloth (54X97") and velvet fabric for the 3.5" frame. The look of sheer amazement (and jealousy) on the faces of our mates as The Two Towers went on was worth all the time and effort put into it and the whole thing only cost around 60 euro.
Whatever you decide to do I`d advise you to take your time, work out exactly what you need, decide on a budget and do it yourself. Prebuilt screens cost a small fortune and might not satisfy all your home cinema requirements.
Juts to clarify something - when I say blackout cloth is much better, I meant than a sheet, not a proper screen (re-eading my post it could have been mis-interpreted).
In case you`re interested, here`s my site
RichardH...I have a thomson scenium 44" rear projection which I enjoy but if I go the front projection way that screen on your site is ....well awesome....time and effot yes but a job well done m8....Will use that idea if I go the front way in the future (which I thinl I will have to as the misses does not want a 60" rear projection in the lounge lol) Once again great screen...you have the Pany projector right?
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I have the Panny AE100, running from a dedicated HCPC (home cinema PC). Not top spec, just quiet fans, Radeon video card (was 7000, now upgraded to a 9600), plus a decent sound card that does the decoding.
Having the "Roman Blind" that drops over the screen when not in use makes things less obtrusive, too.
RE: Projection Screen help
Thanks very much for the tips Richard. I am already using the IKEA 2M screen. Is the blackout cloth any better than this and can you make 8 foot screen with this. Where can I get hold of the blackout cloth?
RE: Projection Screen help
Thanks for the response.
Presumably you joined two parts horizontally to create 8 foot wide screen. Can you see the joint during projection? Where did you get the blackout cloth? How was the joint made? Stitched or seamless joint with an adhesive?
RE: Projection Screen help
Well impressed with your screen and mounting project. You have just inspired me to get the projector on to the ceiling. I`m not too sure about painting the blackout cloth. Is it because it comes in black? The final and finished set up looks very impressive on your site.
