Which 5.1 sat+sub Speaker Package?????

Big Pants (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 21st July 2003, 11:59

Hi,

Anyone recently investigated the best 5.1 sat+sub speaker package recently? I have a small living room and don`t want to use big speakers. I don`t need an amp or DVD player as I`ve just replaced them.

I`ve been looking at Kef, Mission, Sony etc...

Any advice welcome.

The Sony "babe" package gets a lot of good reviews.

You don`t mention budget.
Assuming you`re on a limited budget the Sony HTK215 or Sony HTBE-1 (babe) both sound great.
The 215 used to be a lot dearer than the babe, but now it`s around £20 cheaper.
I think the babe is the `trendier` system,so is holding it`s price level longer.
RGB are doing the 215 for £199, which is frikkin amazing.
Both do DTS as well, which you might as well try if they allow it.

Acoustic Energy Aego P5.
Small speakers that sound amazing. Get it for around £430 with the decoder.
DD and DTS. No DPLII.

What Hi-Fi, June 2002 on the Aego 5

"The Acoustic Energy P5 system is in a different league... It`s detailed and powerful with movies, and offers a cohesive sound that none of the others here come clsoed to."

And what Westy thinks here

I`ve recently bought the new mark 2 kef eggs and they sound amazing!
They`re not to big and look stunning, I run them with a yamaha rxv-440 receiver and films and music sound the mutts nutz.
