Page 1 of Panasonic DMR 50 problem
Hardware Forum
I have had this m/c a week now and done several recordings onto DVD-r
disks. I have tried three different makes and they all play perfectly well on my standalone players but my PC dvd drive won`t play any of them. I have quite a few DVD-r which were done on different dvd burners and they all work on my PC fine.
I was just wondering if anybody else has had this problem and if there is a cure
.
Thanks

As much as I prefer +R as a format for its compatibility, problems playing -R on a computer should be rare.If my experiences with +R are anything to go by,problem players seem to work fine with "Name" brands, not these cheap budget discs.Try a high street name like JVC rather than Ritek or any other budget brand.
Have you finalised the recordings? If you want to play DVD-R recordings on another DVD player, the discs have to be finalised.
Yes the disks are finalised. My computer will play the cheap disks no problem when they are burnt with any pc dvd burner.
I think it must be something to do with the way panasonic burner writes the disk. It must be incompatible with my DVD drive.
I was hoping somebody else might of had the same problem. I will have to buy a new pc DVD drive.
Any suggestions?
I had a friend make me a DVD-R on his E20 and it would not play on my PC or Kiiro DVD player. Both would play DVD-R`s made on a PC though.
I have also got the E50 now and the one DVD-R I have made works on my PC but the program I use "Power DVD" does not see it as a DVD but as a disc with files. I have to open a vob file to get it to work. I have a Memorex DVD-Rom drive.
I bought a trial pack and am testing them to see how compatibal they are. I have ordered some Traxdata as I have read in reviews they are good are were on offer for 99p in DVD case.
I put the problems with the DVD-R`s made on the E50 down too the menu it uses. Something is done different?

I have Bulk Pak DVD-R discs(2xspeed) recorded on my E50 & they play fine on my PC DVD drive.
Thanks everybody for your reply`s.
I think the only solution is to buy another DVD drive and see how that works. But a bit short of money now so will have to wait. If it cures it I will post again.
If anyone is interested my PC is a Microstar P4 2.2 ghz. I have no idea what make of dvd drive is inside.I bought it from pc world about 2 years ago.
ps What make is your pc dvd drive GCXBoy?

I don`t want to start another row,but instead of a new drive,a little extra will get you a DVD+R recorder which should play back no problem. You could always test a disc first, and the +R discs are compatible with more dvd players.
I did not buy the DMR 50 because of the format. I bought it because the only other alternative for me was the Philips. Being a TV/video engineer I know from experience that Philips equipment is not very good so didn`t want to take a chance.
