Basically have a 3 yr old sony dvd and 32" sanyo
Going to go for the yamaha htib-45 which can now be found at empire direct for £245 inl p+p
Does anybody out there want to advise against this? My only worry was the Htr5540rds connections.
By the way what is the difference between the Htr5540rds and the RX-V30RDS?

Assuming you mean the 430RDS, the answer is nothing, apart from the colour!

The HTR is silver and the RXV is black

I let my mind wander....and it didn`t come back.

Id go for the Marantz 4300 over the Yam.
If you like music or music and movies go for a Marantz.
If you like plainly movies, movies, movies then a Denon amp is probably the best to go for.

Also if you do decide to go for the 4300 then it might be better to get a Marantz off someone from the 200 range. ie. 5200 if you want more power. or the 4200 if you want to go for a lot cheaper than the 4300.

Honestly theres not much between the 200 and 300 range. Only 5watts of power more and DTSneo, apart from that they are exactly the same amps.
So as I say best to go for 5200 for the more than what is the 5watts extra at the same price as 4300, or the 4200 for alot cheaper.
Let me know, I`ll look for one for you.

decjoe,
What do you think of the cinema 1 package? Was thinking of that for myself. Do you use it for movies and music? If so, how is it with the music?
Cheers.

Use for movies and music, and the sound even playing CDs is a quantum leap from the set up I had before(see above). as thr thread states I am a virgin in this technology so maybe best to get other views on the musicality of Elac package. Thinking of upgrading my DVD player (current Sony DVP-S336) to one more equipped to CD playing, my budget would be £150-£180.
Any thoughts.

On that budget, i`d definitely be eyeing up the new Sony NSDVP730, available here for the ridiculously low sum of £149!! :o

Saw its bigger brother in action on the weekend and have been reliably informed the 730 offers almost the same performance for a lot less cash. If it`s anywhere near half as good i`d be flexing your credit card if i was you ;)

Failing that, the Tosh 330e or Pioneer 360 are both brilliant budget machines that can playa tune and excel in fine style with DVD replay. At under £100 they`re both absolute bargains.

I`ll be posting a new article by the end of the week all about cinema on a budget - look out for it!!

Hope this helps
