Page 1 of Pal60 Help

Does anyone know of a device that can convert a pal60 signal to pal50 signal, as I have just purchased a load of DVDs from the USA (as they aren`t available here in the UK) and found my TV to be uncompatible with the NTSC/PAL60 signal, whereas my old TV which I replaced not 2 years ago, handled NTSC/PAL60 beautifully!

Any help would be useful as I don`t want to fork out £500 for a new TV after just purchasing a new one...

How do you know it won`t handle NTSC?
I didn`t know you could buy a TV now that didn`t handle NTSC..

What actually happens - do you get a rolling or unstable picture (which is the classic symptom of 60Hz incompatibility)?

NTSC is not the same as PAL-60 - which of the two is your player outputting?

I had the same problem with my dvd player a while ago, before upgrading to a new TV and then a DVD recorder - which is now faulty :(

Check the options on your DVD player to see if you can alter any settings in there to help. Otherwise there should be some sort of converter available.

You could try places like Keene Electronics (http://www.keene.co.uk) or Letropacks (http://www.lektropacks.co.uk) as they usually have all sorts of converters.

converting ntsc to pal 60 can be done very cheaply (around £20) but converting pal 60 to pal 50 is completely different as the frame rate need`s to be altered the last time i checked a system converter would cost around £250 another option would be to buy a dvd player that already has a system converter built in ie tesco`s dansai or asda`s pacific ranges starting from £60 just make sure you check the forum for hack`s etc

I think it may just be the NTSC signal I require, as I can see the picture fine, but there`s no color, however, (on a slight tangent) if I switch my Playstation2 into pal60 I get the same result, same screen no color.

Ah, so the TV *can* accept PAL-60, the problem is that it doesn`t accept NTSC. Do you have the option of using a RGB SCART connection?

The Playstation 2 doesn`t have a PAL-60 setting, by the way - it can only output NTSC when playing NTSC DVDs (unless it`s modified).
