Toshiba SD100E vs Aiwa 370

mushgussie (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 5th January 2001, 10:47

I`m looking to spend up to £250 on a DVD player and am leaning towards the Toshiba as it would appear to offer the best visual quality. That said, there appear to be a lot of Aiwa fans - have any of you been able to compare the Aiwa with the Toshiba? Bells and whistles aren`t really that important to me, just good sound and (particularly) video.

Yep, and I have an Aiwa 370!!

Take a simple example: selling statistics..

Toshiba 100: widely available but must be "modded" for multi region;

Aiwa 370: SOLD OUT evrywhere!! with a handset hack!

The Aiwa has the best picture I`ve seen on ANY player under £350, but if you`re really stuck, and don`t care about VCD playback, get the LG 3350 because they`re really the same machine!!

Oh, and just to annoy Troll...I might be en route to enabling VCD on a 3350...but I don`t have one to check it out on!!!!

(might just buy one macro disabled to try this...what a player that would be..all the bookmarks..the onboard decoder...VCD playback..and macro disabled with multi region!!!!!!)

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!

Ah ha!! All Aiwa fans, i found a place that had two left in store in Sussex, took a look at it and compared it to the Toshiba. Sorry all but the Toshiba wipped it`s butt from here to butt kicking vill. Picture was sharper, although sound not as good it really is a class player!!!!!!!!! Got the Toshiba in the end, i like the look of it more and it was a lot cheaper!!!!!

Official Toshiba boy! (Well everyone else has a saying!)

P.s - Soz mate i did view them both on the same T.V. A Sony 28", the difference was noticable in dark areas, i cant see any layerchanges after watching 3 films, u sure u aint got a faulty one? The Toshiba was by far a better player from what i saw and it`s quick to. Just a matter of taste i suppose, but i will admit that they are both great players!

Aiwa 370 Rocks!!!

P.S. just because a dvd player say`s goodbye when you switch it off it dos`nt mean it likes you

OK... now I`m not so sure... Butt-kicking-ville is rather a long way.

I suppose the sensible thing would be to compare them in-store, although quite how I manage to find a store with an Aiwa is beyond me. According to Comet, they`re end-of-line and no more will be available.

Anyway, having spoken to Debenhams, it would appear that (unless it has a fault) I can`t return it. Not quite what I understood by their returns policy and a bit gutting given than I`ve only had it since 16/12/00.
It did freeze during some of the extras on Chicken Run, but does than constitute a fault?

Anyone know of any other disk problems with the Lecson (or the Wharfedale, I guess...)? It would be nice to have a few more titles I can toss into the discussion tomorrow ;)

Once again... Cheers for the advice...

Oh.. to further confuse me, a friend`s been singing the praises of his Panasonic RV20. That apparently doesn`t have RGB output, although the RV40 does and it`s about £250 from Richer Sounds...

Maybe it would be for the best if I AM stuck with the Lecson =)
