Multi-region DVD player for PAL only TV ???
Hoping someone can help me...
I`m looking for a multi-region DVD player so I can play region 1 DVDs but I don`t think my TV is NTSC compatible as I can`t find any reference to it in the manual or on the menu.
I`ve heard that the Toshiba SD420E may be suitable as it has some sort of Pal to NTSC converter. Is this true ?
Can anyone recommend the above DVD player for this ? or recommend any others ?
RE: Multi-region DVD player for PAL only TV ???
Yes, I think that`s right. http://www.multiregionmagic.co.uk sells them for £159 at the minute, and says they sell them as such (can play NTSC as NTSC or Pal 50). As I understand it, it`s the Pal 50 that you want if your telly doesn`t work with NTSC. I cannot recommend or say anything about the player as I`ve had little experience with it. Looks nice, though. And if the spec is right on their website, it doesn`t look too shabby. :)
If you go for it, let me know what you think. I`m looking for a machine too - had my eyes on the Tosh 220E, but then that`s another story.
http://www.techtronics.com/uk/shop/50-toshiba-sd-420e-multi-region-dvd-player.html also does the player for a bit more expensive, depending on which multimod upgrade you want. Unfortunately I can`t comment on this either, not knowing which mod would be more reliable or worth it, or much about techtronics firm. I`ve emailed them and they are very prompt about replying, though. Seem nice.
Westy once suggested multiregionmagic to me for a Tosh 220E if buying it online - that`s the first link, and that`s the only reason I put them first.
What I will say is that it seems (from my experience) that the stability of the multimod upgrades for the Toshibas are a bit hit and miss. I think Westy took back a 520E and I took back a 220E for similar problems.
Having said that, I understand that Westy has had great joy at Sevenoaks Sound and Vision, with their multimod upgrade for the Toshiba 220E. If there`s one of those near you, they come highly recommended from the man himself.
If you`re interested in other NTSC>Pal 50 machines, maybe someone else could help you, or you could do a search in this forum on Pal50 or Pal 50 - it makes an interesting read, and tells you stuff you should know about what Pal 50 does to make your TV happy.

What TV do you have? If you post the make and model someone might know if it is NTSC compatiable, which would obviously give you a lot more choice of player. My Toshiba doesnt state anywhere it is NTSC compatiable but it is. Most TVs from recent years are these days.
EDIT: I mean my Toshiba TV is NTSC compatiable. I have a Sony DVD player.

RE: Multi-region DVD player for PAL only TV ???
I bought the Tosh 220E (multiregion). When I play Region1 DVD it comes out in Black&White on my TV. Found out that my TV didn`t support NTSC. Someone on this forum recommended the Pacific 1002 from Asda (£70). Returned the Tosh and bought the Pacific instead. Now R1 DVD is in colour. It also plays VCD, SVCD, CDR, CDRW, & MP3. Comes with 3 year warranty.
The only drawback is that on some DVDs, it can be a bit noisy if you do not place the DVD properly. Other than that, I am very happy with this budget player. Have recommended to 2 other friends. They, too are very happy with it.

I`ve had the TV for quite a while...it`s an LG-KE20P30X.
I noticed it mentions 50hz on the back, does this mean it`s PAL only ?

RE: Multi-region DVD player for PAL only TV ???
My Daughter`s TV is an old mono 20" Panasonic without NTSC compatability and would not play non region 2 discs on her PS2 even with RegionX ,and the right cables.
Out of interest ( well because she nagged me about it) ;-) I tried a couple of machines and found that the Bush 2023 / Mico Platano 1003 worked when set to auto output, not the sharpest picture but full colour and sound.
