LG3350 Macro

daz (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 2nd January 2001, 02:55

So Techtronics are selling the 3350 with macro disable, but how long will it be before we all know how they did it, the sooner the better then this 1st class player will have all the features anyone could possibly want.

Yup - strikes me as odd the way that the player was already `modded` and now you can get an extra `mod` for £17 more.

Would this be a firmware trick or a hardware (pin snapping) alteration?

Hmm..

From what I can figure out, they are pretty much the same however:

The AIWA looks better and it`s cheaper and can play VCD`s whereas the LG3350 can`t but the LG has an on-board Dolby Digital decoder. Why they didn`t include the ability to play VCD`s when the AIWA can is beyond me but there you go. The LG3350 might have a few extra features but I`m not sure.

On-board Dolby Digital decoder
Extra SCART
Better remote (glow-in-the-dark buttons!)

From what I see the main "put off" for the LG 3350E is the firmware dependent hack. If it was guranteed to hack, like the AIWA 370 (or Wharfedale 750s, well enough said about that the better!), then I would be getting the LG now!

As its £189 @ dabs.com.

But I want multi-region as a definite so the AIWA is on its way (yes I found one!).

If the AIWA falls thru, I may well gamble with the 3350E from dabs, I am def. not going above £200, for a guranteed multi region LG from technotronics.

I have not heard any reports of recently purchased 3350E`s that cannot be hacked (including those from dabs). With the new e-commerce laws you can return the player anyway.

The Techtronics one is more expensive but it is now Macro-free. . .
