TOSHIBA - HOT STUFF - WHY?

A R Clarke (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 7th February 2003, 07:51

I have a Toshsd42-hk. It plays discs ok until its been on 30 mins. The machine gets very hot where the amp for the dolby is located and then refuses to read discs. Once cooled it reads discs ok until it gets warm again. Is this normal?

Umm! at a rough guess I`d guess that it wasn`t normal. I suppose it`s OK for someone who only has the odd 30 mins of time a day to watch a DVD in multi-part but I prefer to watch a film in a single seating. :)

Funny you should say that. Made a call to Toshiba. They have since sent a replacement by courier. After 30 mins gets hot again. Discs wont play.......Disappointed to say the least.

Are you allowing enough room for ventilation?

If it`s happening with both the old and new machine, I reckon it`s probably just needing some ventilation.

Try it on an open space and see if it still happens.

If it`s one with a built in amp, check the speaker connections. They may be drawing too much power and overheating the amp. also like they said, let it breathe.

Thanks for the replies everybody. The player had plenty of room to breathe. As a test I left the player in acold toom overnight. Next morning discs would play. After 30 mins again the discs would not play.
Have now since exchanged the TOSH for a PANASONIC and as yet all is well in movie world!!!!!
