RE: HDD OR NOT HDD..THAT IS THE QUESTION!

I was faced with pretty much the same decision HDD or Sky+. I am now the VERY proud owner of the Panasonic HS2 HDD DVD recorder. Decided this route mainly so I could archive recorded programmes I wanted to keep and the firewire input to record from my camcorder. Also a little fed up with lining Mr Sky`s pockets again. Ok so you can watch and record 2 different sky channels at the same time. Only so much time to view recorded material though eh!!!! :/

RE: Newbie needs advice on first recorder

A bit new to all this myself also. The big guns like `JIMBO` and `PHELINGS` will no doubt give you the excellant tips as always. I purchased a Panasonic HS2 only a week ago and the only word I can think of is AWSOME!! :D
Has 40GB Hard Disk (easy to use), DVD RAM and records to DVD-R.
DV`firewire` connection for camcorder and has PC Card slot view a selection of memory cards from digital cameras. Bought mine off E-bay as an Ex-display model with a full 12 mnths warranty and it is in new condition. Saved myself over £165 on the cheapest internet price. Love it!!!!

Hope this helps.

RE: Connecting New HS2 recorder..please help b4 wife beats me!!!

Thanks Phelings. Digisender should theoreticallt sit between equipment and TV so will give it a go. Where abouts do I connect my current Panny home cinema system as I will want to view original purchased DVD`s in their 5.1 format as I beleive the HS2 is not.

Connecting New HS2 recorder..please help b4 wife beats me!!!

I have just replaced my VHS with a new Panny HS2. Techno-phobe wife not happy about this. Need help with connectivity as I want her to be impressed with it. I ask you folks because my current set up with VHS is all pear shaped. When I switch video on it takes prescedence over SKY on EXT1. So cannot record say ITV and watch sky. Need to avoid this kind of problem with new toy or far from impressed she will be. Please help in advance.

Thanks

28" Widescreen Philips TV 2 SCARTS and input on side foy S-VHS and yellow, red and white connections

Panny Sky Digibox. (not +) 2 SCARTS, 1 RF in and 2 RF out

Panny HS2 recorder (not sure on connections till i get it. Sure Phelings and Jimbo know though)

Panny SL-DT100 5.1 home cinema DVD NO SCART, S-VHS connection, Phonos for TV in and EXT in and out. Yellow video lead to connect to AV source

Philips Digi sender 2 SCART inputs and 2 out to the TV.

Would like to still view sky and the HS2 content upstairs.
Also would preferably like to hear sky and the HS" playback through the panny home cinema.

Probably a tall order chaps but any help would be appreciated.

RE: Sony VS Panny...which would you choose?

Seems all very unanimous. No post from Jimbo though. Anybody have thoughts on the e-bay prices.

:/

Sony VS Panny...which would you choose?

Any help on this would be great. Which recorder to buy?

Sony RDRGX3
Sony RDRGX7
Panny HS2

Have seen the HS2 selling on ebay for between £480 and £520. These look good prices compared to other places. Any comments.

Thanks

Panasonic HS2 and recording TV

Hi folks,

At the risk of being dense does the Panasonic HS2 have anything like videoplus technology for timer record. If not does anybody have any experience of programming it?

Thanks

RE: Panasonic HS2 slated in Dealtime reviews... Any truth before I buy???

Thanks for the replies. The review was implying the HS2 would not `output 5.1`. I have been looking so long now and the HS2 seems to be the one that covers most bases at the momment.
This particular review also intimated that everybody should now hang on for Blu-ray technology as DVD as we know it will cease to exsist. Surely this is an exaggeration!

Panasonic HS2 slated in Dealtime reviews... Any truth before I buy???

:o A couple of reviews related to the "deal time" website have slated this model.

It is `alleged` that the machine does not like recording from sky digiboxes of any make.
It is also reported to have a "black bug" firware problem meaning that finalised DVD-r discs have a foggy white appearence if played back on other machine than a Panny.
The fan is reported to be intolerrably noisy.
It is not possible to connect it to a current 5.1 home theatre system even though Panasonic technical and the manual says otherwise.

The damning reviews suggested waiting for the next Panasonics to be released when the blackbug had disappeared and Panasonic have got their act together.

Does anybody own one of these??? What are they really like??

This seems to be the only forum that is sensible about anything!

Thanks
Andy

Recording from SKY to HD on the Panasonic HS2

I have noticed it is possible upto a 4-way LNB for mini dishes. If I were to upgrade My current standard LNB would it be possible to record one sky channel while watching another using The Panasonic HS2 thus eliminating the SKY+ as I cant afford both.
Any ideas gents?

Thanks

RE: PS2 Headset Help

Thanks for that. Did consider SOCOM but I am not broadband enabled and therefore have been told not worth buying.

At least I can headset now.

PS2 Headset Help

Any ideas where to buy a headset for the PS2. Have tried all usual shops and websites.
Does anybody sell them???????? :/

Dolby 5.1 connectivity help!

I am looking at investing in a Panny 100HEBS recorder. I currently have a Panny SH-DT100 cinema system. Is it possible to connect the recorder to this so I can enjoy 5.1 from the recorder also.
Comments also on is this a good DVD recorder and is it multi-regional. Only bad thing I`ve heard is that the fan is noisy?????
Thanks :/

RE: Sky+ or DVD Recorder...Mucho questions?

If only both were an option! :( Main reason for purchase is to record TV but was hoping to have the flexibility to transfer camcorder footage and possibly old vhs home movies onto DVD also. Sky+ does sound good though. If you had to chooses which way would you go?
Any ideas if the HS2 is multi region and on the connectivity to my current panny for the 5.1 experience. :/
Have just this minute read that the HS2 is excessively noisy. Any truth in this?

Sky+ or DVD Recorder...Mucho questions?

Have been thinking of opting for sky+ until I read all the rave reviews on the Panny HS2. At this stage is it sensible to plunge into the world of DVD Recordable. If the Panny is worth looking at can I do the following:

a) Can I record from my camcorder onto the DVD discs
b) If so will they play on other peoples machines,(memories for the grandparents living abroad)
c) Is the machine multi-region?

I currently own a Panny scdt-100 home cinema system. Can the HS2 be linked to this so I can still benefit from the 5.1 cinema sound?

Sorry if the questions are silly but any help or opinions on my ponderings would be gratefully received. Thank you all in advance.......

RE: TOSHIBA - HOT STUFF - WHY?

Thanks for the replies everybody. The player had plenty of room to breathe. As a test I left the player in acold toom overnight. Next morning discs would play. After 30 mins again the discs would not play.
Have now since exchanged the TOSH for a PANASONIC and as yet all is well in movie world!!!!!

RE: TOSHIBA - HOT STUFF - WHY?

Funny you should say that. Made a call to Toshiba. They have since sent a replacement by courier. After 30 mins gets hot again. Discs wont play.......Disappointed to say the least.

TOSHIBA - HOT STUFF - WHY?

I have a Toshsd42-hk. It plays discs ok until its been on 30 mins. The machine gets very hot where the amp for the dolby is located and then refuses to read discs. Once cooled it reads discs ok until it gets warm again. Is this normal?

Toshiba SD42HK-Please Help

I have just purchased a Toshiba SD42HK home cinema DVD system. It professes to play DVD, VCD, CDR/RW and MP3. When I first switched it on it most certainly did. I also have a lot of DVD-R discs. I promptly viewed 2 of those that evening. This evening it will no longer play those DVD-R discs. It either skips through the chapters without playing or just displays disc error. The drive is also making a funny ticking noise. PLEASE HELP if you can. Why did it play these discs but doesn`t anymore?

Thanks in advance folks!
