I`ve recently bought the pacific 1002 (great player), but is it worth getting the schneider 857 because of the 5.1 decoder thing? I`ve got an average nicam telly, but am soon getting a posh widescreen one. Would the sound on the schneider be better than the pacific through my current telly? Should I upgrade players? Also, is the schneider 80 quid??? Cheers, chaps.

I have changed from the 1002 to the 857 and have bought 5.1 speakers which are trust 4000p for use with computer or dvd they are great plenty of power for my room which is 24 foot by 12 foot . Goto www .trust.com and have a look they even give you a list of who sells their products

Erm the 5.1 decoder makes absolutely no difference to the Television sound UNLESS the tv has 5.1 speakers and input for this, not so sure about completely intergrated televisons, but I think that they are almost an extinct affair. Somebody can probably correct me on this :)
You want a seperate Speaker and decoder system...This will be able to accept the signal from your current player as it fully supports Digital sound output via a coaxal or optical connection.
The sound on your current television will not be affected as that is only Stereo and the pacific outputs this...

ps: Do Asda mind you swapping the player ? I have thought about doing this myself !

Asda don`t have that much choice I think, as I only bought the player 3 weeks ago and there is a 100 day refung or exchange guarantee. Thanks for info on telly. I`m thinking of getting a JVC R25EK widescreen telly-know anything about it? What tv do you have?

The Schneider 857 is as of 6/02/03 £89.87 UK pounds at ASDA The Pacific 1002 is " " " " £69.93 " " " "
Must admit I`m kinda torn between the two, what`s the difference really? Apart from £20 pounds...
It appears from comparison that the Pacific plays CVD (China VideoDisc), JPEGs support, MP3 on DVDs.
But from what I`ve read there are versions at ASDA that won`t play CD-Rs as it`s been inhibited in some models. Both players are at our local ASDA including a Schneider 1003 @79.97 not heard of it or seen one yet.
Does the Sch-857 macrovision hack also work on Pac-1002?
