For ITTrol and other LG owners..the VCD issue

Jimbo :oÞ (Elite Donator) posted this on Thursday, 21st December 2000, 16:49

Well, I`ve done some digging and been told it is NOT a firmware issue, and simply something that has not been enabled on the LG.

Wierd that the clone player had it, and the parent didn`t, but the firmware updates for multi region LG`s are the same ones being used for Aiwa`s in some places I know of, so that led me to think that the firmware was not the reason.

I spoke to the LG rep about it, and his tech dept. say firmware isn`t the reason, so who knows?
He`s gonna dig deeper though, and see what he can find out for us!

More when I have it!

AIWA 370 (officially) ROCKS!!!!!!!!!! (and plays VCD`s too! :oÞ)

That`s strange because the UK LG Electronics Helpdesk told me:

"Should a firmware update be produced to offer VCD playback support in the future we will publish details on our website bulletin board on how this option may be taken up."

I can`t see it beeing anything other than firmware because as we know the internals are pretty much identical.

The firmwares are definitely different, for starters one says LG and one says Aiwa! The LG firmware also has those extra GUI functions (Dolby Digital setup, disc auto continue, bookmarking, etc). I strongly suspect that if you drop the LG firmware onto an Aiwa you would loose VCD. Feeling brave Jimbo?

So you have spoken to the rep again. Any news on the big M issue?

Could you please tell me if the VCD mode can be enabled
will this also mean that CD-R, and CD-RW will work as well

What are u talking about?

As far as I know the LG 3550e/3551e DO play CD-R`s and CD-RW`s...
Only the VCD compatibility isn`t (and won`t be I`m afraid) solved (yet).

Just take a look at:

Jimbo

You seem to be a boffin on this issue maybe you can help me. When playing mp3 on the LG only 8 characters of the title are displayed making it difficult to distinguish between songs. Is there someway to enable it to allow for more characters, like when using winamp on your pc.

Hope you can help me.

Thanks
Arend

Arend,

I have the Aiwa 370 (= LG 3350 brother or sister).
And there`s no way to enable more characters.
I`m afraid you`re stuck with it.
