Page 1 of computer DVD-Players region free?
Hardware Forum
hello all,
can a DVD-Player in a computer be set to region free?
as mine say you get 5 trys to set what region, then it will lock at the 6th time
thanks
RE: computer DVD-Players region free?
I think that most DVD movie players like Power DVD/WinDVD allow you to change the region 5 times before the region locks itself to the last one you select. I`m not sure if DVD-Roms are the same but considering the paranoia in Hollywood regarding regions etc I would guess that there may be some drives that are limited to a few region changes.If there are locked DVD-roms I would reckon that there will probably be firmware/hacks to get around this problem somewhere on the web.
RE: computer DVD-Players region free?
Please see the following link for downloads of firmware to make your DVD-ROM region-free:

If your player isn`t listed, or you don`t want to hack the firmware on your drive, then you can look for a program called DVD Genie which interacts with all the top DVD playing programs such as WinDVD and PowerDVD.

thanks for the help people!

Whoa, wait a minute.
You "must" get your DVD drive region free through a firmware patch first if it`s region protected.
You need to know if your drive is RPC1 or RPC2 and whether it can be "patched" through aforesaid firmware site;
Only then you can get your software genuinely region free through DVD Genie, Region Killer, whatever.
Please ask if you want more information.
