Hack Help Forum
I hope this isn`t too stupid a question. Does the region code control recording as well as reading? I have a Phillips DVDR 3480, and am recording some British TV programs to send to friends in Australia (region 4). They can`t play them, and we assume that the recorder is actually recording as region 2. If I use the hack code to change my recorder to region-free, would this make my discs readable in Australia?
Many thanks!
Bob B.
DVD Recorders create region-free discs. Only original movie DVD`s have region coding built into them.
Your disc should play in any country. I record TV series and send them to a friend in the USA without any hassle at all.
It is possible that their player is incompatible withy the type of disc that you have used, or you may have forgotten to finalise, or it may have been damaged in transit.
What type of disc was used? Please be precise. What player are they using?
Thanks for your help! My friends` DVD is an NEC NDR50. I`ve been using Lekium DVD+R discs (4.7 gb, 1 - 16x), and finalising them. I`ve recorded on Long Play mode.
I`m now wondering whether it is a problem of incompatibility between my TV (SECAM) and the Australian one (PAL). I`m in France, and get my signals free to air via satellite from the UK.
Anyway, they are going to get a young relative to try copying my discs to a PC and burning new ones on that, and seem hopeful that it will work. Any further clues would be most welcome.

I think you just hit the nail on the head, Bob.
SECAM! I assumed you were in the UK so didn`t even mention that issue as we are using PAL and so are the Aussies. But if you have recorded in Secam, unless their player can read Secam recordings, which is highly unlikely, it won`t play it back. Copying or watching the discs on a PC is the best bet, I think.
As an afterthought, can you switch between Secam and PAL in your set up menu? I just wondered whether you can opt to record in PAL or not?

you would need a mutizone player rather than just mutiregion. or as wisemen say
use a computer converter program to convert it to watever system you like
the memory of you will bloom like the flower in the garden of my heart
