Hello, can you explain this, i have just purchased a wharfedale M5 DVD player and am very happy with it, apart from one minor problem, my TV cannot pickup the signal coming from the player when playing a movie, to change to widescreen or fullscreen unless the player is set to put out a Pal signal,
On the wharfedale you can pick Multi,NTSC,Pal60 or Pal, i get the best picture with Pal60 but have to manually change my TV to the correct picture frame,
My last player sent the signal ok and my Sky Digital changes when required,
Its nothing serious but would like to know if it can be sorted out......Cheers!

hey, Ok for this you need a 1 for all remote from somewhere like comets or currys, should cost you about £15.

Here`s a code for ALL Philips DVD players:

The code works (should work) with all known firmwares and types. The bad news is that you need a special remote to use it. First you have to issue a special IR command RC6, codeset 4, key 235 (decimal). Then the rest of the code should be entered normally. So the code is

RC6 code 222 222 005 255 PLAY

The RC6,4,235 code is can be sent using One4All (URC7560) universal remote. To do so, the remote should be set up to control the DVD (setup code 0539). Then press the DVD
button, press the Magic button, press 085. After the 085 the familiar dashes on the front panel display should appear. So the rest is simple, 222 222 005 255 and PLAY.

Do not have a special remote? A Palm owner? Well in this case it`s your lucky day. Using the famous OmniRemote software from Pacific Neo-Tek it is possible to use the code.
OmniRemote is the application changing the Palm into programmable remote control. Using the correct pdb file, which can be downloaded from my site soon, it is possible to use the RC6 code.

Good luck.

Well Lostboy, i do need some help. I have been trying to find a multi region hack for my Akai dvp2000 for quite some time now. Unfortunately no body has been able to help me up to now. I have managed to find the hack for the earlier version of this model which requires you to hold down FF and STOP along with the black button underneath. As my unit is a later version it does not have the black button underneath and so this hack wont work. Can you help with this??? If not please let me know. Even if you can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Or you can email me at ysrajd[at]moc.liamtoh

Thanks in advance.

Gdvd 125 hack

Lostboy (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 7th December 2001, 21:49

The hack for the Goodmans GDVD 125 to make the player region free is as follows:

Turn On the System and Open the DVD Disc Drawer
Now with the DVD Drawer Open, Press SETUP
This will take you into the SETUP options
Move along the options to the CUSTOM options
Now PRESS 3333 on your Remote
A menu will appear listing the multiple region SELECT ` 0 ` to make the machine multi region.

I will come back with the alba! are you sure it`s 103xi???

Hope this helps
Matt

Not too sure on this one, try this, it may work.

Press the on/off button on the player to turn it off

2. Press and hold the buttons eject and A-B together, and then press the on/off button on the player to turn it back on
3. When the text A:00 D:12 appears on the units display, release the eject and A-B buttons

4. By pressing the play button to increase, and the stop button to decrease, change the value of A until it reads A:05
5. By pressing the skip-forward button to increase, and the skip-backward button to decrease, change the value of D until it reads D:00 for region free, D:01 for region 1 or D:02 for region 2, depending on your preference

6. Press the on/off button on the player to turn it off
7. Press the on/off button on the player to turn it on

PS2 Multi-region hack!!!!!

Lostboy (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 7th December 2001, 22:22

The Japanese Playstation 2 is only meant to play Region 2 NTSC movies on DVD. However, there are several tricks you can use to enable playback of Region 1 NTSC movies.

The Playstation 2 can NOT play any PAL movies, regardless of the region coding. Well, at least we have never heard of anyone who have had any success.

There are two versions of the DVD driver, and you must use a different trick depending on which one you have got.

If your Utilities disc have "Version 1.01" printed on it, you have the new driver. If you Utilities disc dont have a version number, you have the old driver. The actual driver is located on the 8M memory card that came with the playstation. If you want/need to, you can download the driver from the utility disc to the memory card.

Region hack for the old driver:
Method 1:

Hold down L1, Circle, and Select while booting until movie starts

Method 2:

Press in L3 (the left analog stick) straight and hard until movie starts

Region hack for the new driver:
1: Start the PS2, enter the Browser

2: Insert DVD, wait for the CD icon

3: Select the CD Icon

4: Press Square and keep it down

5: Press Circle and keep it down (Do not release Square, you should now be pressing two buttons)

6: Wait for the DVD menu

7: Release the keys

8: Start the movie with the play icon or the movie start icon
