Please can someone tell me...

If i buy the Cyberhome ADM512 from Richersounds can I:

1. Get the Multiregion upgrade anywhere else other than paying £20 fo it

2. Can I remove macrovision

3. Expect to get good sound and picture quality from this player

Thankyou in advance

You will need to burn a firmware upgrade onto a CD-R using the site below. You will be able to turn off MV through the menu although I believe the correct upgrade (9.8) switches it ON each time it powers down. There is a newer version (9.9) but the version considered the better one is 9.8. If your player plays ok using 9.8 stick with that. Richer Sounds are selling the 9.9 upgrade. If you`re confident changing the firmware (it`s straightforward - and instructions are given on the website) save youself £20 and do it yourself.

It`s ok,

Don`t know what the deal with the cta is on the page though ...

The hack page for the 512 on DVDReviewer is out of date. It mentions that there`s a handset hack but this only works on the earlier version of the player not the ones currently in stock at Smiths, Richer Sounds and at Jungle. Due to some poor Rom drives used in the first series (quite noisy and got hot) they updated the player and introduced a fixed region. The 9.8 & 9.9 firmware upgrade resets the regions and should allow auto or manual switching of codes for any RCE disks you might have.

The sound and vision and reportedly very good. Although you can expect some cheaper compoents to medium to hugher priced players the basics have been designed and manufactured well. Also, the player does not have a DTS decoder. I was caught out by several reviews in Home Ent but another owner confirmed it just has a digital dts out.

I was very tempted by the 512 until I found out it had no dts decoder. See the link: http://www.cyberhome-help.de/bilder-unterseiten/Rueck_detail_m512.jpg

As my amp is DD only I plumped for the Panny RV60 instead. If you`ve got a dts enabled amp then go for it if you like the offer you`ve seen.

One greta advantage about the CH players is that there seems to be a great community of users (as well as the company itself) who are keen to help out and share knowledge wherever possible. Also, like costly Meridian equipment, CH are keen on developing more firmware so that their players can be upgraded (at no expense to their customers). They have a great, expansive, forum at:

Claudia,

I`ve downgraded to version 8.0 and, according to the cyberhome-help.de site any versions beyond this are unofficial. This is a bit confusing as all current players bought over here now have the MV locked/region locked 9.9 firmware so this can`t be true. I have found version 8.0 to be fine for all disks bought so far, but is there any advantage to using 9.8? Grateful if you know what the additional benefits are.

Cheers

Steve

With version 8.0 firmware mp3 files tend to jump. With 9.8 this problem is cured.
