Please can you let me know the hack for this dvd player. (XD-DV170)

Mine is suppose to be region free, it plays region 1 in black and white,
from that assumption, I know it is a region free but is there something I am doing wrong. I thought I`ll try you since you posted your messages a while back and you might have had a reply.

Many thanks
Anthony

yes your machine is region free

some reasons why it may be black and white
1.some tv`s have 2 scart sockets one for pal the other for pal/ntsc
if your tv has two scarts, try changing them

2.in the dvd player menu setup the display output may be at video out
change this to rgb output

3. scart lead may be faulty

hope this is of help

Was your Aiwa XD-DV170 already multi-region as standard or did you require a code?

Hi,

Many thanks for your answer, unfortunately there`s no scart socket on the DV170, yes you could be right about the TV but my TV hasn`t got a NTSC switch.

Please let me know if there`s any other things I could do to make the DV170 read region 1 movies in colour.

Best Regards
Anthony

No, it was region free out of the box according to the salesman in Singapore, he even tested some other region DVDs for me and it works fine on his TV.

Please let me know whether you can help me further.

Best Regards
Anthony

I had this problem with a scart lead and a VHS machine. However, the SCART connector on the TV could be configured by the handset to be either S-Video or RGB, if I recall correctly. Anyway, whatever the settings were, on one the American videos were in black and white and on the other they were in colour full screen. Check your TV`s manual!
