Wharfedale DVD750 problem

Mark Partner (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 14th August 2000, 20:03

I have a Wharfedale 750 and a Philips 32PW9515 TV.

I region-hacked the DVD using the 0123 hack and although the machine does play Region 1 DVDs there seems to be a slight distortion when I do. It seems to occur whenever there is a bright background - any object that moves around on top of a bright background causes a `ghosting` across the screen. Region 2 DVDs playback perfectly.

When I play a Region 1 DVD I change the DVD player`s System Setting to NTSC and this improves things radically, but it is still there. There is no option on my TV to force NTSC (I don`t think).

Does any bright spark out there know of something I can do to improve the display?

Cheers

Does your TV support any image filtering? To improve picture quality? Sometimes when these are turned on with a digitally encoded source, they can cause artifacts similar to those you describe.

Does your TV support S-Video? I set my player to output in S-Video which I find gives a sharper picture across all regions

Have you altered the brightness on your tv as apparently this affects the picture in ntsc playback
