This may be a hack for the JVC-XV521, 522 and 523
I can`t confirm, because I haven`t got one.
But if u have, let us all know if it works!

TRY THIS--

Remove Disc from the tray
Unplug the unit from AC source.
While Pressing both "PLAY" and "OPEN/CLOSE" keys together, plug the unit to
the AC source.
"TEST JC1" will be displayed on the flourescent display.
Press "3D-PHONIC" Key.
When "V-REPLACE" is indicated on the FDP, initialization is complete.
Press "POWER" key to exit test mode

Good luck!

I Have tried this hack, i get TEST RE2 instead of JC1, I pressed the 3D phonic key and got V-Replace, pressed power key. I only wanted this hack to remove macro vision but unfortunatly it did not seem to work. I do not own any region 1 disks so i sould not test that part.

I also tried a few other keys and I strongly recommend that you do not touch the forward or reverse search keys as the drive units starts making
noises that will scare the hell out of you.

I seem to remember finding this a while back in my search for a hack for the XV557. It was somewhere on the JVC site and what it does (if I remember correctly) is to restore the default firmware to the player.

If anyone has any more info on it, I would be glad to hear it. I`ve been looking for a hack for this player for months.

The hack does not work (at least not on a XV523). It brings the said text up, and on hitting 3D-PHONIC, V-REPLACE appears, but inserting a region 1 disc (i tried Tarzan, The Patriot & American Beauty) it gives the regional code error.

Fiddling with the remote seemed to bring up loads of odd things (text and numbers) on the display, perhaps these odd numbers and letters mean something, and somebody cleverer than me (does that word exist!?!) can manage to hack the blimmin` dvd player.
