as far as I`m aware the fact that you do or do not get XP is dependant on your standing in the league, and if the other Gremlin is much lower then you... how then is it possible that I don`t get any xp for fighting (and winning) fights against Gremlins that`re actually higher ranked? or do stats figure into this equasion as well?

It`s about stats, and if your opponent wins a round.
So basically if it is a whitewash (ie no drawn rounds and you won every single one), then you will only get XP if your stats are within 30 of your opponents.
