Proline 1000 & Gladiator disk 2

I`m having trouble getting my disk 2 to play. After the "universal" logo comes to a halt the whole thing freezes and locks. Is any one else having this problem, is it possible to put right? Help!

I have a Wharfdale 750 and have EXACTLY the same problem.
The DVD is Region 2 and I checked the disc on my computer and its fine!
Any ideas knowledge people out there?

If i purchase the R1 version will that work?
Or is there a way to fix this problem?

Thanks, Sabre.

Try pressing and holding the "Access" button on the remote until the Proline Access screen comes up and then press access again to select the programming menu, then select Track 1 all chapters (by leaving the chapters blank it assumes all) and press play. I had the same probs with High Fidelity and this was a bit trial and error but worked okay .

I`d be interested to know if this works on this disc.

I got a mail recently from Wharfedale Tech Support saying that they`re going to release a solution on http://www.wharfedale.co.uk so watch their space.

A message that I received from Wharfedale Tech Support . . .

Dear Sir/Madam

We are aware of this problem (the disc freezes at the end of the
`Universal` logo) and are currently working with Universal and Columbia
Tristar to find a solution. As a temporary measure you can view most of
the extras on the disc by following the procedure below:

a. Insert the disc into the machine and press the play button.

b. Within the first 23 seconds of the "Universal" logo appearing on your TV
screen please press the button on the DVD remote control. The "Goto
T:--" prompt will appear on-screen. By then keying in numbers, in a
similar manner to choosing tracks on a CD player, you will be able to
manually access most parts of the special features disc. For example,
after pressing , , , you will be taken to "Trailers and
TV spot" - The Theatrical teaser. If you continue this process of using
the button and pressing any number from 04 - 21 (except for 10), you
will be able to view many of the contents of the special features disc.

We hope to issue a more ideal fix within the next ten days or so, once
we`ve had opportunity to not only examine the problem more thoroughly but
also to discuss solutions with associated companies. Details will appear
prominently on our website in due course. Thank you for your patience.

If you experience any trouble or difficulty with the above, please contact
the Tesco service team on 0845-6012549.

Thank you.

If you leave it alone for a couple of minutes the menu will come up unfortunately this seems to apply every time you try to access the menu system. I have only tried the Hans Zimmer feature but when I hit the menu button one minute in it froze and eventually the menu came back.

I just tried some more. Unfortunately the delay also applies when returning to sub-menus so watching a collection of clips becomes really boring!

I`m going to complain to the disc supply chain, on principle, I doubt that I`ll get anywhere but at least whatever crap programing achieved this effect can be avoided in future. I don`nt hold out much hope of Comet being very helpful but I`ll try them as well.

Good on you Grahame!

My brother reckons that Hollywood are trying to impose a new way of jumping on DVD players that are Region Hacked (Hard or Software) and Gladiator was probably the first DVD to employ this. Although I`m not so sure his story as I have the R2 Gladiator and (like everyone else) have the definite right to play this feature here on my 750 DVD player.

I am annoyed and disgusted that Universal could let this happen on such a popular and general release.

BennyBoy.
