RE: proline 1000 dts

My proline/sherwood 6095 combination certainly seems deaf to DTS to me

The proline 1000 is 9 months old.

If an upgrade is available that would solve the only problem I have with the proline.

RE: Gladiator region two disk two on the proline 1000/ Proline 1000 macrovision disabled

I must agree with blindinhunger if you are having trouble with the proline 1000 you either have a very old or faulty machine. Mine works in a perfectly average way with most things I chuck on it. Gladiator disc2 replacement is fine although I seem to get huge artifacts on starting the main menu for the first time. Anybody else seeing this oddity.

RE: Wharfedale return-a-disc address as featured on Watchdog

I just spoke to Columbia Tristar at that phone number on the same page and they confirm that the fixed disc also works for the Proline 1000

Muddled old article, as usual with these consumer things they only have half a grasp on the facts.

RE: Proline 1000 & Gladiator disk 2

If you leave it alone for a couple of minutes the menu will come up unfortunately this seems to apply every time you try to access the menu system. I have only tried the Hans Zimmer feature but when I hit the menu button one minute in it froze and eventually the menu came back.

I just tried some more. Unfortunately the delay also applies when returning to sub-menus so watching a collection of clips becomes really boring!

I`m going to complain to the disc supply chain, on principle, I doubt that I`ll get anywhere but at least whatever crap programing achieved this effect can be avoided in future. I don`nt hold out much hope of Comet being very helpful but I`ll try them as well.

RE: Cannot change setup on my proline 1000 please help

The player must be in "stop" not pause or running mode to make the change stick. Dunno about the sVHS, mine works RGB and sVHS through the scart but my tv has no separate sVHS input.

They have an excellent feature by feature comparison, on an easily searcheable/browsable site, combined with knowledgeable mini-reviews.

RE: CHEAP DVD ALERT!!!! £7.99!!

I can confirm this... Heat, Aliens (SE), Wild Wild West and Romeo & Juliet, was my selection. There was a choice from about 20, not the same as in the first message in this thread but similar.

The shop guy said all Dixons branches should be in on it, depending on stock levels. They do have stocks too, it is not just what`s on display.

RE: DOES ANYONE LIKE

Don`t worry about it, if you think The World is Not Enough is amazing then there is no good reason why you should like Fifth Element.

I`m not trying to be snide or insulting they just belong to completely different cultures of film making. I love Fifth Element but wouldn`t bother hiring TWINE, I might watch it on the box but I wouldn`t make an event out of it.

People just have varying tastes.

RE: Is there a dvd with a normal connection to a t.v as well as a scart lead?

Most players have a video (composite) output, normally on a phono(RCA) type socket. If what you need is an RF (aerial) type signal then because of the loss in quality involved very few (if any) DVD players will have this. It may be possible to get an RF modulator adaptor.

RE: CAN SOMEONE TELL ME A GOOD PRICE TO BUY A REGION 1 DVD FOR?

Taking Blade as an example 22.07 USD seems typical and fair, thats 14.7 UKP to save you looking it up. I got that price from DVDDynamic.

In would have recommended play247 but their R1 prices seem to have just made a jump so their price for Blade R1 is 17.99 UKP, for R2 14.99 UKP

Both include free(!) UK delivery which is normal apart from Amazon.com

RE: Is DVD Dead?

I have yet to see a reasonable explanation of where the bandwidth is going to come from for any kind of wide scale application of video-on-demand. Maybe they are relying on a program I saw recently which promised to further compress your DVD stream. I think it was probably an mpeg 1 software compressor. Another great backward step for viewing kind.

Plus one of my favourite features of DVDs are the commentary tracks, I don`t see ppv vendors bothering with those.

Finally, historically the cable companies show very little inclination to true innovation. They have mostly set up the minimum service possible and then griped when people have been underwhelmed.

Rumours of the death of DVD are Highly exaggerated.
