my 8 year old son tells me he needs a joystick to play games on the pc. so looking for some advice/recommendations. what about microsoft sidewinder or logitech wingman ones. also i see there are gamepads available. would i be better off getting a gamepad or joystick? thanks

It depends on the games, anything involving flying or driving you`re probably better off with a joystick than a gamepad. We`ve had two Logitech sticks and been pleased with them.

It rather depends upon what games he wants to play! A joystick is good for flying games, but it can be useful for some driving games, especially if you dont want a wheel and pedals - lets face it, at 8 years old thats probably too advanced. I would recommend a joypad as a good all-rounder, and probably the most appropriate device for someone his age. A microsoft one would be fine, their newer models are pretty good.

thanks for the info. that`s helpful about the type of games as it`s not for driving games - he has a ps for that. we don`t have any flying games either. it`s for rayman 2 for shooting and moving as he finds it hard using the keys. so i guess the game pad is the best option
