Agreed, neither side appears to want it.
So now what?

Wait for one side to grow old and die.
There was a Republican on the radio earlier this week who said that the GOP had already been taken over by the Tea Party QAnon style loonies.
I think it will probably tear itself apart for a while until one or the other side wins, or it will do what the Tories did after Major lost, or Labour after Brown lost, and wildly swing in random directions with no hope of regaining power for a long time.
But I'm probably totally wrong because one thing that the US is very different on when it comes to their electoral system, it can be bought, so it may well be GOP goes where the money goes.

Here's an interesting article by Jay Kuo about the lengths the GOP are going to in an attempt to steal the 2022 mid-terms. God forbid they should ever try to win on ethics & morals alone.

They may be able to after the resignation of Biden's deputy press secretary for threatening to "destroy" a female reporter...

6 capitol police officers suspended without pay and another 29 under investigation following the Jan 6th insurrection.
Hopefully the investigation will continue up the line to find out why they were so understaffed despite the scale of the protests being known so well in advance.

Every President for the last 40 years has willingly given up their tax returns for examination upon taking office. Trump has so passionately refused to do the same there's no wonder so much interest has grown around 'what is he trying to hide?'
Well, they're getting 8 years' worth, from way before he even started thinking about running for office. Whatever he's been so shy about is about to be laid bare, and you know he's nervous, hence all the claims of 'witch hunt'.

OK, I'll be honest - I didn't know that...

Yep, & therein lies the suspicion of nefarious misdeeds.
