Page 1 of Breaking Aldi's sell by date
General Forum
On last nights consumer program, it seems Aldi use a an obscure 'sell by date' code rather than write the date on their fruit and vegetables, unlike their supermarket competitors, who clearly label their's with an actual date.
Ok, here is the code, for example some grapes I bought on Sunday from Aldi and am eating them right now as I type, yum yum
Code is......4607
This means week 46 (that's now last week, when I bought them), 07 is Sunday, where 01 is Monday, etc.
So there you have, we have cracked the code, and why do they not just put up the date, to make it easier to know if it is out of date or not. Grrhh!

RE: Breaking Aldi's sell by date
Urgh. Today's moral outrage. I saw this programme too.
To be honest, I don't like to use Aldi. I'm not a big fan of cheaper, cheaper, cheaper. Because pretty soon, we'll all find out that none of us are worth anything.
Oh wait...
RE: Breaking Aldi's sell by date
Have to admit that I only used Aldi as it was next to where I am working at present. Handy at lunchtime.
RE: Breaking Aldi's sell by date
I'm pretty sure that is wrong anyway, it's not the sell by date, it's a stock date. Yes, you can tell how long it has been on the shelf but it's not the sell by. Things that need a sell by date do have them.
As with all other fresh produce, just look for the latest number so you can to get the freshest.

RE: Breaking Aldi's sell by date
Good point.
Hi
There's a free Mobile App you can download that lets you know what today's code is and also the codes from the last seven days. Saves you having to work out what week and day it is every visit
do a search for **SPAMMED APP REMOVED** in the Play store, I think they have an iOS version too

That apps only been downloaded 10 times according to the Play store, there's only 3 reviews as well.

Maybe it's not very well known, Pat, perhaps they should spread the word by casually mentioning it on forums and social media sites.
Oh wait...
