Brings to mind the, possibly apocryphal, story of the bank robber who pulled a gun on a teller in the States. He just chose to do it in the bank local to the FBI office, on payday. Looked like a flash mob at a gun show.

Unfortunately real pro shoplifters do not act that way, and they do get away with it.
I was in London watching a pro in action, as she came crashing out the store with two big burly security guys on her tail.
She had a big bag and a massive handbag over her shoulder (likely with lots of stolen goodies) and a mobile phone to her ear.
Without batting an eye she threw her stolen product on the pavement in front of me, the security tried to grab her, and she shouted hands off while spinning round and round refusing to return to the shop. She said something to them like "I will scream"
The two security guys then gave up, grabbed the shop product and returned to shop, knowing she would get away with a warning or community service, and not worth the hassle of taking her screaming back to the shop.
