Buggered audio on 10 year old MiniDV footage

When I had a PC that ran XP, I transferred 6 hours of camcorder footage onto the hard drive, with the intention of editing it for posterity (Yes, the honeymoon footage from this thread)

I transferred the .avi videos across to my new HDD when i built my own rig, and in the time between, the audio has got screwed. Plugging the old hard drive in, same deal with the original copies.

My best description is video looks fine, but audio is approx double speed. Is there an easy way to automatically fix this, or will something like virtualdub help?

Does it play at all in WMP Classic? If so go to the properties in the file menu and see what the video/audio codecs are, then post it here.

As Rob said, I suspect it is a codec issue.
