Page 1 of Fitting a CD Changer in a Car

I am sure someone on this Forum can answer this - I remember someone giving out ace advice on fitting laminate flooring in the past!

How easy is it fit a CD Changer?
I have fitted Casette players and a single CD player before but dont know how much more involved a CD changer is.
How do you get all the wires from the front to the back? How are they hidden?
There is a 12V socket in the luggage area if that helps!
Or does someone know a cheap decent fitting service in and around Ilford, Essex?

Have purchased a single CD player off them in the past and it was fine.

More a fiddly job than a difficult one. Difficult bit is running the cables from the front of the car to the back. You will need to (carefully) remove the trim panels, run the cables through, and replace the trim panels. Best to run the cables down the opposite side of the car from the existing car loom, in order to minimize any interference. Other than the multi plug which goes into the multi changer, the only other wire you should have is an earth wire, which you can earth onto one of the mounting bolts. You dont need the 12V plug in the back of the car. Power cable is included in the multi plug and loom which connect the head unit and m/c.

RE fitting, to make the job a bit less painful, why dont you install the changer in you glove compartment?
If you want someone else to do it, buy a copy of Max Power or Redline magazines. They have loads of adverts, and there are LOADS of ICE places in your area.

However, I have decided (overnight) thaI I dont fancy taking the trim off or letting any else take the trim off in case they dont put it back as perfectly. The car is less than two years old and is completely squeak and rattle free. I remember how much the occasional squeeking from the self fitted single CD player on my last car bugged the hell out of me.

Think I will stick with a single CD player - just get missus to do the CD changing...

Even better, get one of those those scantilly clad babes to change the CDs.

It is really very easy to remove the trim and refit it dont worry it wont start squeking its only the bits at the bottom of the door you need to take off anyway. Or do as someone said earlier and put it in the glove box or under the drivers seat.

Under the car seat seems doable. Have to have a good nosey around the console area and see how I feel about it.

I fitted my own on my latest car, after the dodgy fitting that a well known store did on my previous car!!!

It took about 15 minutes to run the cable through the car, without taking the carpet up, as mine has a centre panel running from the gearbox to the rear seats (so I just fed the cable through this by unscrewing the centre). A lot easier than I thought.....

Need help with cd changer problem if possible: I have a Kenwood C929 10 disc. When I hook it up to the Head Unit (KDC8021) it will power up and eject the cassette but is not recognised by the head unit. Is there something you think I should know regarding this combination of CD Changer/Head Unit. I`m pretty sure the CD Changer is not damaged.
