Gladiator R1 or R2?

stevet (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 17th November 2000, 12:08

Could anyone help me decide between geting Region 1 gladiator or the region 2 version please.

I haven`t seen what extras the region 2 version has compared to the region 1.

If anyway has any information I would be very grateful

Thanks

They have the same extras (although they are described differently which may cause confusion) but the R1 release has a DTS 6.1EX soundtrack.

Does R1 of Gladiator run okay compared to R2 where the bonus disc 2 hangs like nobody`s business on the Wharfedale 750?

Movie plays fine, which i suppose is why you bought it.
Forget about disc 2. The question is irrelavent if you have a Wharfedale #3.
Sucker won`t play from any region!

I`m having the same problem on the Wharfedale #1, already taken one copy back thinking it was a faulty disc. Once it hangs does it come on eventually or just won`t work at all?

I mailed Wharfedale Technical People about the hanging. They sent a mail back saying the following (received 30/11/2000):

Dear Sir/Madam

We are aware of this problem (the disc freezes at the end of the
`Universal` logo) and are currently working with Universal and Columbia
Tristar to find a solution. As a temporary measure you can view most of
the extras on the disc by following the procedure below:

a. Insert the disc into the machine and press the play button.

b. Within the first 23 seconds of the "Universal" logo appearing on your TV
screen please press the button on the DVD remote control. The "Goto
T:--" prompt will appear on-screen. By then keying in numbers, in a
similar manner to choosing tracks on a CD player, you will be able to
manually access most parts of the special features disc. For example,
after pressing , , , you will be taken to "Trailers and
TV spot" - The Theatrical teaser. If you continue this process of using
the button and pressing any number from 04 - 21 (except for 10), you
will be able to view many of the contents of the special features disc.

We hope to issue a more ideal fix within the next ten days or so, once
we`ve had opportunity to not only examine the problem more thoroughly but
also to discuss solutions with associated companies. Details will appear
prominently on our website in due course. Thank you for your patience.

If you experience any trouble or difficulty with the above, please contact
the Tesco service team on 0845-6012549.

Thank you.
