fzr600r (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 12th February 2002, 15:35

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me why Sky 1 don`t broadcast in Widescreen?

Having recently got a widescreen TV, this is becoming very annoying!

I am an NTL customer, but I believe the same is true of Sky Digital??

I think they do, In the sky picture menu, you can set up a 16.9 picture, hence, broadcast in widescreen.
I assume SKY1 is in w/s as I dont appear to miss anything when I watch it.

Pete.

Sky One isn`t broadcast in widescreen on Sky Digital and never has been.

Sky provide pointless channels like "Sky Premier Widscreen", there isn`t any point in having one movie channel that broadcasts in widescreen because you can chnage the aspect ratio anyway to how you prefer it.

Movies that are on Sky Movimax never appear in widescreen, it`s so annoying.

Sky need to give their heads a shake.

Sky have done a couple of test widescreen broadcasts on Sky One over the last couple of week, but they were not anamorphic widescreen, they broadcast an episode of the X-Files (the epg said "special letterbox presentation")

IMO Sky should broadcast everything in widescreen. They say that one reason is that some many customers have 4:3 TVs. If you can afford Sky Digital you should be able to afford a bloody widescreen telly!!! If you don`t want to live in the digital age and get widescreen broadcasts go back to terristrial TV!
