Chris Moyles climbing Kilimanjaro - whoda`thunk it?

Pete-MK (Elite Donator) posted this on Monday, 23rd February 2009, 21:22

I`ve never hidden the fact I like Chris Moyles and his gang. And the fact his viewing figures are rising back up to the 8 million mark tells me I`m not alone. When Gary Barlow first suggested that Chris should join him on the Killie climb I thought he`d never say yes, but his determination since then has surprised everyone. He`s probably fitter than me at the moment, and thanks mainly to Radio1 listeners the total they`ve raised so far for Comic Relief, before they`ve even set foot on the mountian is nearing £200,000.

Whatever your opinion of Chris, I`ve personally found this whole thing a genuine source of inspiration. He, along with Fearne Cotton, Denise Van Outen, Ben Shepard, Gary Barlow, Ronan Keating, Cheryl Cole, Kimberly Walsh and Alicia Dixon, are doing something that not only could half us hope to do in our lifetime, but probably couldn`t do if we wanted (myself especially).

I`ve never been a great one for donating to these causes, thinking a token purchase of a plastic novelty should suffice. But not this year. Purely for the fact that Chris is doing this, I`ll be donating £20 of money I can`t afford once I get paid on thursday.

Here`s a link to the radio1 page, and for the haters, if you simply can`t bring yourself to give money in the name of Chris Moyles, you can give Fearne Cotten a donation instead..

I`ll double the money if someone pushes Fearne Cotton off at the top. Cant stand her.

Charity jolly after which everyone pats you on the back for being a wonderful human being. Great publicity too.

Gotta love that attitude. Why the hell do any of these people need publcity? Seriously, each and every one of them are extremely well known public figures. If it were c-list has-been celeb-big-brother hanger-ons I`d see your point. Not one of the participants NEEDS to do this. They just are...

I`ll be f***ing glad when he`s done it, because it`s all he talks about. He`s even written a `parody` about it. The only reason I`m still listening to him is because it`s better than having to those bloody bin adverts on Capital and XFM.

I really don`t mind him in general, and he was good fun on The One Show tonight, but he sure knows how to flog a dead horse.

Because we can`t afford home gyms and personal trainers?

I don`t think anyone could seriously argue there isn`t a certain amount of self-serving egotism in this stunt. I`d be far more impressed if they volunteered to work a month in a refugee camp shoveling s*** and didn`t tell anyone about it.

Of course he is. The guy weighs 18 stone and he`s climbing a 19,000 foot mountain, he`s bricking it, and talking about the only thing that`s on his mind would pretty much be my reaction too.

Don`t mean to pick, but Dave writes the parodies. The Gary Barlow parody for his birthday was quite good

He`s trying to raise money for charity. You`d prefer he mentioned it once then didn`t talk about it again?

Incidentally, Ben, that guy is really freaking me out right now...

Good. Let them have all the publicity they want, If they`re doing something like this to get it, then i`m more than happy for them.

Your a brave boy Stantz, I have learnt from experience that a lot of people on here absolutely despise Moyles and refuse to give him credit for anything.
I, however, am in the camp of people who actually like him and agree that what he is doing should be commended. At times when the country is critisized for not caring about others and generally being lazy he is motivating himself to get fit and climb the mountain despite the odds being stacked against him and in doing so he is not only helping a charity but potentially inspiring others to do the same and lose weight/ get fit at the same time.
Of course, in the eyes of many on here though it will all be for self-publicising and massaging his own ego. You just can`t please some people.
