Possible Con

Hi All,

Got this email. To me it seems like a complete con job. Has anyone else got this before.

I have done a search on the phone number, which comes up a debt or charges recovery

The company mS-i[at]tr Consumer Services Ltd comes up as recovery service etc.

Also there is nothing indicating what the amount is for or the reason for it being 50 quid.

Their website taken from the email address is registered but not constructed.

Any thoughts?

You have an outstanding bill with Advantage Claims for the amount of £ 50.00. The payment was due on 05/02/2009. Please call us immediately and pay by card.

Alternatively, if you are having difficulties meeting the payment, call us to discuss other options.

Please quote reference number xxxxxxxx when making the payment.

Regards,

Miss T Parrott

I think it is up to them to prove you do owe the debt. There was something similar to this on Watchdog the other week.

Will.

I agree with the message above
and how come they got your email address, are you throwing it about too much ?

A tip is for you to have numbers in your email adress, and this reduces the automated searches, eg, 67sgolb24eoJ[at]oc.------,uk., also change it every year or two to a new address. That gets rid of a lot of this type of dross.

Also, Any real dept collection would come in writting to your actual adress, which i bet these guys will not have, anf it would say what it is for.

In these credit crunch times there are now many home grown con artists trying it on at present fia letter, email and door to door, so beware.

Yep, agree with the above answers.

A legit debt recovery agency wiuld contact you via phone and/or mail, not email.

Do you owe ANYONE £50 exactly? I suspect not, so DELETE the email! It`s a con.

Cool...

I will just ignore it, till someone sends me a letter.

I know I dont owe anyone 50 quid and it sounds way to dodgy.

Im also sure they wont do anything more than just send me an email.

Thanks again all
