24 Redemption HD Recorded on Sky HD Query

marixon (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 7th January 2009, 12:50

Ok, slightly new to this Sky HD thingy, but can anyone shed any light on a small issue I have.

I recorded 24:Redemption on my relatively new Sky HD Box (1 month old) on the 5th January. I recorded the previous programme as well (24 in 24 which takes you through the history and background of 24).

The problem is, the 24 in 24 programme (also recorded in HD) plays perfectly, but each time I try to watch the 24:Redemption recording, it allows me to select to play from the Start, type in a time to start from or watch the end of the recording, but will not allow the Select Button to start the programme off. The little Red Light on the remote is reacting when I press the remote buttons - but it will not play this programme. All other recordings work correctly.

Any ideas amongst any of you?

Thanks to anyone who can help

I`ve had this problem a couple of times with my Sky+ box, but have never raised it with Sky or investigated further as have taken it for granted that its just a corrupted recording.

Sorry i couldnt be more helpful.

Thanks Bullitt79 - I did wonder if it was corrupted, but normally get Failed when I have a corrupted download.

Umm... it`s usually a sign your hard drive has a bad sector and you can press select to do nothing, press right for manual time start input and nothing, and go right again to hit "end" and still nothing.
Usually requires hitting the Sky button to back up out of it and does the exact same thing again next time you try it.

The recording is probably stuffed but you can try a Sky+ Planner rebuild (Services>Installer menu (4 I think), 01 select (that`s zero one select if you`ve never done this) and it brings up the installer menu. Somewhere in there is Sky+ (maybe SkyHD) planner rebuild and it reboots the box.

Doesn`t usually fix it but does occasionally. Every time it`s happened to me the hard drive fails within a month or two so if it`s under warranty it`s time to harrass Sky and tell them it`s happening constantly.

The above is from Sky+ experience, never had SkyHD but been with Sky+ since about 6 months after it began and had numerous boxes. Currently got 4 of them and my original box is on it`s second (self replaced) hard drive and just started doing the same too.

I`ve had odd things a little like that on Sky+ box and either a full power off and on or planner rebuild has cured it. You could also try starting the programme a couple of minutes in.

How hard is this to do? When I had HD installed the installer went to great pains to tell me that the hard drives were different to a standard SATA one and cost about £200. I have read though that thats not the case and you can chuck any drive in provided its never been formatted. Not that I would do it before my warranty expires on my HD box of course!

Thanks for the advice Jimbo. I`ve run the Planner Rebuild about 5 times and spoken to Sky for about 30 minutes and got absolutely nowhere.

I`ve decided to delete the programme and try recording more stuff and see if the problem starts again.

Off to BitTorrent I go......thanks all for your advice

Bezza, easy as long as you get the disassembly instructions for the box or have a bit of basic knowledge.

Marixon, tell them the box is faulty and you want it replaced. Basically tell them it`s happening regularly and if they aren`t willing to exchange it then it`s breach of contract time and you`ll take it further.
If your`e out of warranty already then speak to cancellations and they`ll replace the box.
Also noticed Tesco doing them recently on a prepay for a year or summat.
