How many will replace dvd`s with Blu Ray?

You know you have LOTR extended, the Alien boxed set, Star Wars boxed sets and maybe a few Bonds, etc., etc., but how many will you replace with blu rays?

Well personllly, it all depends on the Transfer and quality of the BD.

E.g. Casino Royale on BD is a must and compared to its DVD counterpart- is so much clearer.
Others I`d try and aviod would be examples like the Terminator 2 BD as thats not much better than a DVD upscaled.
LOTR I think (as and when it does get released) will be on my BD must have list.

By the time we all upgraded to BD, there`ll be probably a new 2160p format or somehing like that.

I have to disagree about T2 - the BD is a lot better than the DVD (assuming you mean the UK release). Most BDs look a lot better than DVDs. It``s not just the resolution, it`s the lack of compression artefacts and the more accurate colour rendition and frame rate. I`ve only seen a handful of BDs that aren`t much of an improvement over the DVD (Escape from New York, They Live).

I`ll be replacing all of my `must have` titles when they`re available. Already got a fair few, such as T2, Total Recall, Hellboy, Full Metal Jacket, The Fly, Oldboy, Predator, Reservoir Dogs, RoboCop and Starship Troopers, with the Godfather set on the way. Have a few more classics on HD DVD, such as the Matrix films, The Thing, Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, and they look as good as anything on BD (although the BD audio is marginally better)

I`ll be all over the Star Wars set when it`s available.

I`m not sure I will replace them, they`ll co-exist in my collection. A lot of it is cost, and I personally begrudge buying another copy of the same film so soon after the last purchase. As much as I love the format, it`ll be new releases only that will be purchased for the moment, and must have classics that I don`t already own on DVD.

Probably replace my LOTR and Star Wars sets onto BD when it happens.

Other than that I`m just starting to buy the new release `blockbusters` on BD. I`ll still get DVDs for stuff like TV series and none blockbuster stuff as will get them Region 1 as they are usually cheaper and out before UK release dates.

Blu-ray just hasn`t caught my imagination at all.
I usually follow these trends avidly too.
I have an upscaling Toshiba DVD player which gives a definite improvement over DVD.
I know Blu-ray is better again, but I`m delighted with the DVD picture I get already.
It was only £60 too.
So there just isn`t the motivation to switch, for me.

Although I said I wouldn`t, the double dip has begun again and I`ve already bought 11 titles on BD that I already have on DVD*. This is less than half of those I own and I keep trying to avoid buying those that I already own. The same thing happened when DVD came about and I replaced my VHS collection very quickly but, in this case, unless the difference is noticeable or it`s a film I really like, I`ve resisted the temptation. Of those coming up, The Thing, The Godfather Trilogy and The Matrix collection are likely to be bought on Blu-ray.

*2001: A Space Odyssey, Casino Royale, Hellboy, Blade Runner, Ratatouille, Cars, No Country For Old Men, Close Encounters, Bram Stoker`s Dracula, Starship Troopers and A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Add House of Flying Daggers to the s***ty transfer list. I heard the RA disc was bad, but hoped it would be fixed. Not so.
