Top 10 famous landmarks of the world?

Right, apparently I`m a f***ing moron. :(

As I was away with my friend recently, the topic of discussion turned to The Sydney Opera House and my friend saying it was top 3 most famous landmarks in the world.

I`d never even heard of it. :o

My mate was dumbfounded, but was unable to provide me with reference on where and why I should have seen it, after I`d explained that I know absolutely nothing about Australia so it`s probably why I`d never heard of it.

Anyway I realise I should have heard of it, but after looking on Wikipedia, it`s not just a case of I didn`t recognise it by name, I don`t know it by sight either. :/

Was looking for a list on google, but surprisingly it`s hard to find one (I`d expected to find loads and then just see the different ones based on opinion).

With the view to avoiding me looking like a complete moron in the future, thought people here may be able to provide linkage to lists, or compile a collective?

Its fairly famous, and fairly iconic...so I`m a little surprised that you`ve never seen it (Sydney`s annual New Year`s celebrations?? 2000 Olympics??).

Anyway, here`s a list of "Top 10" (even though there`s 8??) that someone`s already made:

Not sure I agree with their choices though.

Its probably better to go for the top 10 man made and top 10 natural wonders that probably makes for a better split.

Thirded. :/
I certainly rank the Sydney Opera House (and nearby harbour bridge) as right up there with the Taj Mahal, Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate bridge etc.etc.

Other man-made stuff that I would count in the top whatever ir is:-
Eiffel Tower
Millennium Dome
Statue Of Liberty
Them rocks in USA with presidents on it :D
That metal bloke up near Newcastle :D
Old Trafford - Ok getting stupid now...
