Another Knife Death!!!

mbilko (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 29th June 2008, 18:07

When are we going to get this knife culture that has sprung up tackled?? Every week now it seems some poor sod is knifed for no apparent reason and unless we hammer these thugs sooner than later it will be too little too late.

For me id give them a mandatory minimun sentence for carrying a blade (cept for work reasons etc) of 10 years, maybe that will put the fear of god into these scrotes :( and a life sentence for using one.

Some say the threat of the death penalty doesn`t dissuade people from committing offences, maybe, maybe not?

I say do the 10 years banged up, mean it and not treat them with the limp wristed legal we have these days!

prison is no deterrent, playstations,gyms,5 star food, days out etc etc - a better life than most can pay for.

why take life so seriously..its not like you are going to make it out alive

I don`t know about that. Prison is a pretty big deterrent for anyone with something to lose, but we`re usually talking about people who know how to work/handle the system and see it as a badge of honour.

Yeh, I`m a decent law abiding citizen with a lot to lose....and I don`t carry a knife. The kind of people that would do this don`t have a lot to lose and will have a better life in Jail - thats why this kind of thing is so common these days.

If Jail was a hellhole it wouldn`t happen.

Exactly! These yobs cannot cope in the big wide world and see prison as a holiday home. If they were given 10 years of slave labour...say 18 hours a day with no day off...this knife culture would end.

The problem is that this has all been said before.

Death sentence - might not be a deterrent, but it does prevent re-offending.

Prison is too soft, and probably does present a better life for some of these villains. You don`t see this problem in Singapore or Saudi Arabia.

However, while all the politicians kow-tow to the limp-wristed, left-wing, PC brigade nothing will get better. We are on an inexorable slide into a decaying society where good moral values are to be derided not respected.

The trouble is that since Enoch Powell and Margaret Thatcher there hasn`t been a politician with enough balls to fill a matchbox.

Firstly the killing of any innocent whether they be 16 or 60 is obviously to be condemned and the perp duly tried convicted and sentenced but...

I confess to wanting to hurl a brick through the TV or radio every time I hear one of the chattering classes tut tuting and wetting their pants over "knife crime" or "gun crime" (delete where applicable).

Remember a few years back how practically every other day a child was being savaged by a pit bull. Which was basically any hound not registered with the kennel club as something else. Until the government was stampeded into the total load of cobblers that is the dangerous dogs act.

The same thing happens with firearms dating from three policeman being shot with a pistol back in the sixties, so the great deep thinking ones in whitehall react by putting shotguns on licence thereby causing at least 250,000 of them to disappear into attics and sheds. Until the electoral grandstanding that was the handgun ban back in 1997.
After which a Labour press release stated that "We have taken the guns off the streets".

The politicians will wag their fingers and shake their heads at the mere smell of a microphone or camera. "We must ban knives/guns" "We have to stop this knife/gun culture" and so on till hell freezes over.
And sod all will happen because the media has already given them the answer. By banning some specific type of knife or firearm Joe public will be told that something has been done and all will be right with the world as long as not too many more die on too regular a basis.

Until you take the convenient label off of the method of committing the crime and put the focus on the criminal nothing will change.
If you want to make a good start you can sentence people to what they will serve and assume good behavior ie: sentenced to 5 and you serve five unless you don`t behave then it will be extended.
We`re told they all come out thick, illiterate and unemployable so make the sentence 5 plus whatever qualifications seem appropriate. English, Maths GCSEs. Trade qualifications. Five years served but no qualification, tough stay in till you do qualify.

And for Petes sake put enough law on the streets and focused on taking those streets back of the scrotes who seem to be able to run them with complete invulnerability.

Is banning "Knives" really going to change anything? Especially when the chance of being caught are pretty much non existent ( unless you are an actually need a knife http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/1.117603 ).

Knives are seen as a mark of "Respect" by the people who carry them, along with the prison sentance that would go along with it.

The real question, is how have we managed to let this culture "be created" in the first place? So lets ask this question - you are more likely to carry a knife and use it if you

a) Live in a leafy suburb, with a caring family and have been given oppertunities to go to school, get an education and improve yourself
b) Live in a crime riddled inner city estate, probably in a tower block, living in relative poverty, with parents that are disinterested in education as they don`t see a reason for it?

It`s 2008 for God`s sake. Give me my jetpack, and give me my x-ray goggles. This future is rubbish.
