Pixelating and freezing - common problem?

stuartclubb (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 7th January 2002, 22:15

hi, just got my Goodmans GDVD 125 for christmas and things have been going fine, but recently i have noticed that quite a few of my discs keep pixelating and/or pixelating and then freezing.
this is particularly bad on the James Bond `On Her Majesty`s Secret Service` dvd during the making of documentary, and always roughly at the same point.
i have checked the disc(s) and can`t seem to see any scratches or dirt on them.
is `pixelating and freezing` a common problem with dvds?
any comments greatly appreciated.

cheers

I`ve only had problems with my Samsung 709 when playing some cover disks. I guess I`ve been lucky.

On the other hand my PC DVD locks up all the time, thats because it`s a piece of s*** and likes to test me.

I have only suffered this once on a disk, and it has not repeated in the same place (which would be the case if a scratch, mark etc). I think it happened because my DVD player (Cyberhome 512) had got rather warm - I had recently moved it to a position where there wasn`t as much ventilation.

I had this problem on my Schneider 855, with The Mummy Returns, but in the players defense the DVD was hired from the local library and had a few scratches.

Local library DVD hire is £1.50 per week include double disk DVD`s, can anyone beat this

Hey must be goodmans thing,
same thing happens with R1 Moulin Rouge on my goodmans gdvd100. REALLY FRUSTRATING!!!

Also R2 Joan of Arc and R2 The Patriot menu do not work, and for R1 Charlie`s Angels (good movie) I had to change from region bypass to region 1.

I guess you get what you pay for, otherwise does the job fine...
