Faulty DVD recorder!?! What are my rights....??

Andy_R (Elite) posted this on Monday, 29th October 2007, 21:41

Bought a Goodmans (spit!) DVD Recorder from Tesco last December and haven`t really been happy with it. The drawer won`t eject properly...I`m always having to pull it out manually...and the player keeps `sticking` - in the sense that no matter what I press on the remote or unit nothing happens at all , resulting in having to rip the plug out!! Many months of simply `putting up with it` has now taken it`s toll and I`m wanting to take it back.

The missus reckons I should have no problem getting a refund due to my statutory rights. I paid £90 for this recorder nearly a year ago. For the same price or thereabouts I could now purchase one with a HDMI output.

Basically , do I have rights with regards to taking it back and demanding a refund?

I`m pretty sure you do rights to a refund but something in the back of my mind is telling me that the retailer doesn`t have to give a full refund :/ .
I maybe getting confused.

Take it back to the strore and tell them that the electrics phoneline told you to return it (even if they didnt). If you have the receipts you`ll get a full refund.

Legally the store has to "put right" the situation if under warranty (if less than 6 month old the store has to PROVE its not an inherent fault if only offering repair) which can include a repair but to be hinest iy aint worth their while to go throught the hassle

I also bought a DVD Recorder last December, but from Argos. It stopped working last week. I took it back on Saturday along with the receipt and all connections and it was changed without a problem. I was even given a £5 gift card because I had spent over £50 even though no cash was exchanged.

Take it back.

Both Argos and Tesco (Also Asda) are extremely good with refunds.

So long as you have your receipt as proof of purchase, they will simply refund you.

You automatically have a 12 month retail warranty on all new electrical products purchased from reputable retailers (not ebay!) in the UK.

Panasonic would be better. Unless Sony has improved the Panasonic has the best LP (4 hour) quality out there, by far.
