My first Ebay problem, help please!
Hello,
I use Ebay very rarely and have just hit a problem. I sold a S-VHS Video recorder, , which was hardly ever used (I tested it before I put it on sale) and it had loads of bids and some chap won the bid and paid.
He has just emailed me now saying he is having problems with it and he wants a refund.
The problems he describes sounds like tape problems rather than machine problems, because he has said he is using a tape that he recorded on another deck. I packed it so well, wrapped it 4 times in bubble wrap and boxed twice, virtually zero chance of damag. I don`t believe there is a problem, but what really can I do? Obviously I don`t want to refund him. I don`t care about feedback really becuase I rarely use Ebay, but naturally would prefer to keep it 100%.
I have written back asking him to use S-Vhs tapes instead of old ones and told him I`d rather not give a refund.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks,
Neil.

ask him to try new tapes, + the usual head cleaning etc, but always answer his questions as soon as you can & be polite, & most importantly, make sure he is communicating via the ebay system, not private email, for the simple reason that ebay wants to see you talking to each other, if they see that your being reasonable there is less chance of them taking the buyers side if he starts a dispute, stick to your guns, but be polite. as a very last resort, you can ask the buyer to return the item so you can inspect it etc, but the bottom line is that you only need worry if you are concerned about getting a neg, also, how was the item paid for ? if it was paypal & your are uncommunicative he has a good chance of claiming a portion of his money back from you, but if it was any other method then you don`t realy have any worries, especialy if your sure the item was ok & delivered in one piece etc.
hope this helps.

Thanks very much for your response.
I`ve done what you recommend and responded politely, suggesting that he tries a few things to see what the problem is (I have offered to pay for any new tapes he buys).
His email was polite, if a bit disjointed, so I hope it can stay amicable and respectful.
If he responds next, and he still has no joy, I`ll ask him to return it so I can try it.
Thanks again for your help,
Neil.

Check out the ebay forums. IF he can`t get it to work he has to send it back to you for testing. Don`t refund him till you`ve received it back.

Ask him if he is using an s-vhs enabled tv, otherwise the s-vhs won`t work.
Didn`t realise that was the case, thanks for mentioning it.
Worst case, I will ask him to return it to me, for me to test.
Neil.

£75.00...it`s more than I expected (I`d have been happy with £40, but looking at previous completed sales, that seems to be the going rate.
Good luck with yours.
Neil.

Sounds like a tape problem and not the VCR.
I have 3 different Nicam VCR`s (one is SVHS) and often the sound track or video track can be slightly out if recorded on one and then played on another.
If he made a fresh recording on that VCR (even on his old tape) you could virtually guarantee it will be fine.
why take life so seriously..its not like you are going to make it out alive

does it have manual or auto tracking.
