I`ve been picked for jury service!

Don`t know how that`s going to work, given that I require 24 hour care and one of the carer`s shift changes taking place at 3:00 pm. Does anyone know if I would be excused? I`d love to do it but don`t know if it`s logistically possible. If anyone`s recently done jury duty, what are the hours?

i`ve done it twice, & i found it ranged from incredibly boring to equally exciting :) definitely a worthwhile experience.

as for being excused, yes, you would certainly qualify, & tbh if your court building is anything like mine (bolton)
then you should be able to get around with very few issues, my main concern for you would be your equipment, is it durable/portable enough ?
what issues might you have if something failed ?

imo, it`s worth you pursuing it, i think you would enjoy the experience, i just hope you get picked for a couple of good cases :D

either way, i hope it works out the way you want it to :)

I have to go to crown court in a couple of weeks as the main witness to a sexual assault. I have a disabilitating fear of talking in front of groups of people. This could be fun.

Dr 42%er.

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

i don`t envy you, i was in the same position when i was about 19, & hate crowds etc, fortunately i was only "up" for a few minutes.......

it`s much better being on the other side of the barrier.... (jury, not defendant that is ;) )

If you can do it, do it.
I was picked a year or two back... but didn`t get on one case. :(

Me too, everyone always thinks I mean I really don`t like it (like the most people) but I actually really lose the plot.

I used to get ripped in Uni.

Even doing a 3minute presentation in front of 20 people in my tutor group, where l knew everyone, I lost the plot. They insisted that you weren`t allowed to read from the page and I just got completly lost.

The next time I just went up and had every single word already wrote, got about halfway through the page got one word wrong and started shaking the page and getting all flustered.

It`s a nightmare because I always think f*** it who cares but then lose it when I get up there (even tried getting p***ed before one of them but still did not good ;) )

Hope to god I`m never best man!

If you don`t want to do it just wear a suit and take a copy of the Daily Telegraph.

You will not be picked.

Very portable and durable - I`ve been fine travelling from Darlington to Newcastle to Uni.

I would need a carer nearby in case of a health problem which would probably lead to a court adjournment.

The only issues I can think of are logistical: I would be unable to take notes or fit in the jury box. I might call in on Monday on the way back from/to the cinema and have a chat with someone there.

i don`t think you will have any issues tbh, you won`t need to take notes for most cases, (unless you get lucky & land something really juicy :) ) as long as your able to debate with the rest of the jury, thats the main thing, & i don`t imagine you would have any problems in that respect. & as for getting into the jury box, i seem to remember wheelchair spaces when i did it, & that was about a decade ago, so i would imaging things on that side could only have improved ?

Hope this helps.
