Hi everyone, as the title says I am after some advice on sofa beds.
As some may know, we have recently moved and the house we are in needs a bit of renovating so I have come up with the great idea of using our conservatory as a temporary bedroom so that we can get on with re-wiring & decorating etc upstairs.
The sofa would be in near constant use by our 2 girls who use the conservatory as a play room, then used for a week or 2 at a time as a bed so comfort would be quite important.
I have seen this one (Tokyo Futon) in Next that I think is really nice, it would fit in perfectly with the decor in the conservatory, but am concerned that it may be a bit uncomfortable because it is not sprung, we used to have a futon years ago, a very cheap one, and it was like sleeping on concrete after no time at all. It is also slightly over our £300 budget but could stretch to it. However the mattress on our old one was only about 3 inches thick and this one looks to be 8-10 inches.
All the other normal sofa beds I have seen are £400-£1000 and nowhere near as nice looking.
Any opinions or advice greatly appreciated as always.
All the best
Gerald
I have slept on a futon sofa bed for the past 25 years. You get used to them. The 8" will become 3" in no time though as you will also be sitting on it.
Only had bad experiences with sofa beds and futons. Family swear by one of the larger raised airbeds which my sister uses when she stays. Might be worht considering if you don`t need the "sofa" option during the day. Plenty in argos etc.
I got a great sofa bed from habitat about 18months ago in a sale. Would highly recommend it....

I didn`t think of Habitat will have a look later on, it will be used as a sofa almost constanly by the kids but only occasionally as a bed, probably get used every day for 2 weeks then not used again for 6 months or more.
We called in to Next yesterday and told them what we thought, the lady was very understanding and said that if we bought it and it did go flat after 6 months they would probably replace/refund, she is going to confirm this for us today.
All the best
Gerald.
RE: Advice On Sofa Beds Please
Hi Superted - I`m currently in the same position as yourself housewise and I use an `intex` branded blow up bed I got from ebay; it has a built in pump that inflates/deflates in a couple of minutes and is surprisingly confortable. Have a look here:

Well we have settled on the Next one, they phoned earlier and said that it will be fine for what we want, it is designed for regular use as a sofa and occasional use as a bed, they advise that the mattress is turned regularly as with all beds, but if there is a problem they will replace the mattress.
It solves 2 problems as we did need a Sofa for the conservatory, the wicker furniture we were given is falling apart and very uncomfortable.
All the best
Gerald.
